She had remained completely neutral to the rescue new until she was absolutely certain that there were no lies in the whole thing, that for once, truth had been told to them all on this bloody island. Yet, it still felt surreal to her when she walked into the freighter, sitting down alongside the other survivors. For a short moment, her green eyes scanned the crowd, searching for the face that would prove her that it was just another one of her foolish dreams from which she was about to wake up and then find herself laying uncomfortably in her cold tent. However, her mother was not there, and the pure vibes of different emotions surrouding her could not be mistaken; she was awake, safe and sound, and they were going back to the civilization.
Marie avoided all gazes, but when some proved themselves unavoidable, she would make the efforts to smile back as honnestly and encouragely as possible. She couldn't allow herself to ruin this moment. Happiness was all over the place and it was almost unbearable to her. Her eyes bgean to water slowly, but she didn't care to fight it anymore. They were finally going back to all the things they ever knew, however bad it could be to a few of them, including the teenager. It had just been her and her mother for a long time, and she had no idea of where she was going to do now. Her mother was gone, and she had had three freaking months of loneliness to realise that.
Actually, what was bound to make the girl shatter was watching them go, and she realised it when she looked around the small 'room' they were all sitting in. They were all adults, and with dead or living parents, they were all able to go on. They had been united on this island in an instinct of survival, but soon, they wouldn't be needing each other... at all. It was the logical way to put it, but it didn't make sense to her, for she needed this small group, somehow. However cold and useless she might have been to most of them, she still cared about them all in a way she couldn't explain.
Her present state of mind proved itself contradictory when she came to think of it, since she had been one of the first person to join Jack's side in the whole split up. However dreadful home sounded, it was still way better than staying on the island that took her mother and half of her identity, away from her. Her train wreck of thoughts was interrupted by the new wave of attention that the boat's windows were causing. Her thick dirty blond eyebrows frowned and she stared at the crowd, clueless, until the key word came to her ears. Dock...
A nervous sigh escaped her lips and the girl wrapped her arms more tightly around herself. Soon, they would be setting foot on a solid ground, and maybe they would even walk down the streets! Streets... She barely remembered the happy crunchy sound it made when her feet danced joyfully on it. There was a voice in the back of her head that kept on repeating that things couldn't be all that easy, suddenly. After escaping weird jungle people, and even freaking polar bears during weeks, walking down a harmless street seemed... anything but simple! The crowd was moving now, probably rushing off the boat, and the girl immediately jumped on her feet, following them unconsciously. She did not want to be left alone, not right now, and so she would float along and fake a similar excitement.
The girl blinked several times when she finally decided to look at the whole escort waiting for them, which she thought would be composed of relatives and sorts, but she was dead surprised to see cop cars as well as photographs.
'' Oh, crap... '' She said to herself. What was this all about ? Suddenly, one of the officers was already on the deck, introducing himself before pointing his gun at someone named ' James '. She had become oddly used to guns during the past months, but James did not ring any bell and the teenager followed the Officer's gaze... Sawyer ? Since that wasn't enough of a shock, more officers were coming over, and the one called Kevin claimed that he wanted Kate. What was that, suspected people collecting day ? Who would they ask for next... The woman had admitted herself to be unclean, but Marie only started to realise her meanings. Was the situation really worth all this crap ? Everything went quickly after that,
'' But.. Hey! What are they doing ? They can’t take her ! '' The girl protested with a low voice, asking for answers to anyone who would care to hear the only 'kid' of the whole crowd. Kate might have done nasty things, killed people even, but the young girl had come to trust her, and it wasn’t something she could allow them to step on. When Claire and Jack did the thing she was so scared to do - protest -, they all stopped and their words registered in her clueless mind. They were dead right, how could those officers not listen to them? Marie could not stand not to be informed, as well as not being useful, and emotions were pressuring her, forcing her to speak out as confidently as possible.
'' Stop ordering our ass around, and just listen ! ‘’ Marie spoke, her teenager attitude showing up again. ‘’ T-They're right. '' She added, motioning Claire and Jack, which's speeches had caused her eyes to water.

More and more people were getting involved, and it was starting to make Sawyer’s head hurt. The words, and the recognition that had finally dawned on him as he looked at the cop. Of course, this had nothing to do with Australia. It was a past transgression from much longer ago that was coming back to bite him in the ass. The only common factor between the two was Hibbs. If Sawyer had to pay twice for the same screw up while Hibbs got off scot-free...
That bastard was a dead man.
Sawyer could feel Kate’s eyes on him as she said his name, but he ignored her. It was much easier to do in all the commotion. And the surprises weren’t over yet! The last person Sawyer expected to actually jump in and mouth off to the authorities was the sweet little baby momma, but hot damn was she giving him an earful! Too bad she didn’t know when to shut up, though. It was not going to help Kate if he thought they were all raving lunatics. Nobody could possibly understand everything they had all gone through, and as far as Sawyer was concerned it was better if they didn’t. It was better nobody knew. Polar bears on a tropical island? Whispers from the dead? A world ending button? It was all insane, and they were better off taking it to the grave.
And then it was Jack’s turn, and every word out of his mouth was just plain laughable. Sawyer had done a few good things on the island, though certainly less than most, but he knew that didn’t make up for all the bad things he had done. So it was all well and good to say that Kate was a saint, but none of them really knew her, or what she had done.
But Sawyer did, or at least he thought he did. If she had been honest during their little game of I Never so long ago, and he was sure she would as there was no advantage to lie as she had, then he knew what she had done. She had killed a man. And murder wasn’t something the cops let off too lightly on, no matter how many people she helped in a situation that was forced on her. The line about her not being a flight risk was the best, though. Maybe she couldn’t step foot on an airplane, but she was a runner and a tiger don’t change its stripes. Or so he had thought, but here she was giving herself up.
Shaking his head at all the chatter, Sawyer took a minute more to listen to the internal battle raging within him. As much as he still cared about her, considering who her captor was there was just no way for his getting involved to end well.
“All I know ‘bout this whole thing?” he suddenly jumped in, attempting to enact an air of annoyance or possibly indifference. “Y’all talk too damn much.”
Pushing through the crowd, he didn’t even spare a glance in Kate’s direction as he made for the ladder and the bittersweet freedom that it offered.

Kevin watched as Sawyer walked away, and Kevin knew that he'd have to quickly make up a story as to why James Ford hadn't been taken in with Kate. However, the woman in his arms was top priority to him at the moment; Ford was going to have to be on the back burner.
Kevin didn't feel the need to explain to these people why it was so important to him to get Kate in one place, to sit her down and to talk with her. As far as he was concerned, it wasn't their buisness. However, the Doctor's words along with the other survivors, it struck something of a cord in Kevin for the moment.
"Look," he said, holstering his pistol with a frown. "I understand y'all have been through somethin' feirce. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. And I also understand that this woman means alot to you. I ain't denyin' that. However, I got a job to do."
He looked to Jack. "If it makes y'all feel any better," he told the man and the group. "All of your statements could make an impact with the DA. And," he looked to Kate, his grip loosening some on her arm. "I can see if I can get you out on bail consitering the...circumstances."
Bail wouldn't be too hard if he got the right judge at the right time with the right bleeding heart. Yes, she was a murderer. Yes, she had drugged him and left him for dead...but she had also been through hell itself. "But for now, she's gonna have to come with me. Matthews, get these people to a bed. They look dead tired." He lead Kate towards the ladder and off the boat, frowning as he walked towards his car that was parked a little ways from the water.
"I wasn't lyin', you know." he told Kate after a moment. "I'm gonna try my hardest to get you bail. And I've got a few favours with the DA and a couple of the judges that need repayin'. But I will tell you now," he told her seriously. "You run from me again? I'll arrest every single person on that boat and hold them for aiding a federal fugative, are we clear?"
They arrived at the car, and Kevin clicked the button to unlock the door. He opened the door, leading her to it.
"And just so we're clear; whatever you've done, whoever they say you are, Kate Austin, Maggie Ryan, Joan Heart, Monica Callis...I wasn't lyin' all those times I said I loved you. 'Cause whether or not I saw who you really were or who you wanted me to see...I still love you. I didn't lie a day about that. And I ain't lyin' now."

Clearly, Marie was making a scene for nothing, but it wasn't something the teenager was able to completely realise on her own, tough Sawyer's intervention was being quite helpful. She did remained silent, however, when the officer spoke to them again, repeating over and over how gloriously courageous he understand they were, or whatever he thought they wanted to hear in order to calm down.
Her green eyes narrowed and she glared, silently and miraculously still, while he had his way with Kate. As much as she hated it, she knew there was nothing she could, or was allowed to, do about it. He was a cop, after all, it was his rightful job, but the teenager could not look at the situation like that, with simple logic.
She didn't loved cops. It wasn't hatred, just annoyance and complete distrust that she felt toward them. She had to deal with them too many times than she wished she had, and now they were the first thing they all had to deal with, now that they were back to the civilization. How could that be a sweet welcome home party, for her ? It couldn't, especially not since they were now going to be forced off the boat and to a hotel room.
Why was she feeling so forced to everything, right now, anyway ? They were actually being treated very nicely, and they were offered a decent shelter after months of sleeping on the sand, with the whole freaking ' A Bug's Life ' cast running down their pants.
One of the officers had gotten into his head to gently lead her to the ladder, but the girl rushed forward as soon as his hand approached her shoulder. So, what was new - Ms. Kennedy was once again mad at the whole word for everything and nothing... She was mad at the whole world, indeed, for how it reminded her how lonely she was, now. She glanced hesitantly over her shoulders at the survivors still standing on the boat before she climbed down the ladder. Once on the dock, she felt immediately awkward and stood as close to the debarking survivors as she could. She wouldn’t be going out there alone, not now...

Jack felt a breath escape his lips as he watched Kate walk away with the officer. He wasn't sure what was between the two, but the cop seemed more interested than the normal cop who wanted to find his criminal. He had said something about bail, and Jack made a mental note to call his mother. Kate would need money, and if anyone had money, his mother did.
Aaron squirmed and cried, and Jack looked down at the baby in his arms. "Hey, hey," Jack said softly, bouncing Aaron with a frown. "It's okay." he told the boy, trying to soothe the crying child. "It's okay, Aaron." he told him again, looking to Claire as he lifted Aaron up so his head was against his shoulder as he lightly bounced him. Everything she had said, yes, it was the truth...however, they didn't need to be viewed as people that had come down with island feaver, or people that had gone mad on the island.
He looked at Aaron again from Claire, watching as the boy settled down slightly, but still had a surpreme displeasued look on his face. "You'll get to sleep in an actual crib." he told the baby in a slightly baby voice. They started to walk towards the ladder and to normal life. Home. It felt so alien on Jack's tounge. Home. For three months, the Island had been home, and now...
"I don't think I remember what a nice bed felt like. I wouldn't be surprised if I found myself on the floor in the morning."

Idiot. That’s what the man standing in front of her was. Could he not see that he was insane for even thinking Kate was guilty for whatever it was, and even if she was, did he not think an island for three months running for your lives and trying protect the people you’d come to know as your family would change a person? Did Kate not deserve a little compassion instead of a little cell? Was the asshole in front of her SUCH an idiot? Did he want to play this game? Angrily Claire wiped the tears from her eyes as she looked on. He wasn’t about to listen to her. He was far to pig headed, far to much of an idiot and an obvious asshole. Sure Kevin tried to play the nice cop, only doing what was best, but he failed. Miserably.
Jack’s pleas went unnoticed as she watched Kevin, he needed to see that what she was saying was true, but would he? It was highly questionable, and even more unlikely. She was the distraught and estranged mother on board, who had simply been through too much. Sure, that’s what they’d all think. If she kept telling the truth, her credibility would be blown. Well, was that really far off from now? She doubted it. Aaron’s cries however were able to separate Claire’s eyes from Kevin, and remove the invisible daggers from him for a moment at least. Eyes low, she turned and grabbed Aaron from Jack bringing him close to her. “Thanks.” She mumbled, noticing his cries slowly ceased.
Kate would be okay, Claire felt defeated however. The asshole in front of her had no compassion and wasn’t going to let her go, and then as if on cue, that’s when Sawyer jumped in. DID he really have to be a jerk right now? Tear filled eyes narrowing, she glared over at him, her look saying it all. It was bad enough with out him chiming in and complicating matters. As it was already he’d just gotten off from whatever this cop had wanted him for, and he couldn’t even be thankful.
I got a job to do.
Over the edge Claire went. “Well you’re doing a terrible job.” She told him in an acidic tone and a glare to match as she wiped her eyes getting rid of the final tears that had been brought on by her explanation of the island and of course talk of Charlie. Frowning Claire looked back at Kate, “I’m sorry he’s an idiot and won’t listen to us. I’ll.. We’ll get you out.” She said sincerarity dripping from her. With one last lingering glare at Kevin Claire was slowly pushing past him with Aaron hoisted in her arms as he contently played with her hair. “We’re gonna get you home, and we’re going to get Kate back…” There was plenty she could of said there, but in so many ways then not, it was over. A lot of things were over.

Jack was trying as hard as he could. Claire was trying beyond anyone, and a few others were trying to help as well. James Ford however was being a jack ass now. She knew she’d hurt him yet again, but it was for the good of both of them. They’d both be behind bars for years if they’d ran and been caught, and eventually, it’d always happen. No one could successfully live their entire life on the run, they’d never have friends, or really live their lives to the fullest. This way ensued… Well, it ensued that they both wouldn’t be put behind bars, and for Kate that was enough. Sawyer’s added attitude however did not help. Did he really think she wanted to do this as well? It was for the good of both of them. For everyone.
Jack was right. Kate wouldn’t be a flight risk, but by Kevin’s tightening grasp, he wouldn’t take a chance, and after finding her again, he wasn’t going to let her go. His heart and mind probably burst with a millions of little questions each hurting him more then the last. Half smiling she looked at Jack in thanks knowing it wouldn’t help. “Marie, it’s alright.” She told the teenager, her voice was a little strained, but she didn’t like seeing the girl upset. “I’ll be fine.” Everyone seemed real torn up right now, and Kate didn’t particularly like it. Nor did she like being the center of attention. “Well James-“ Kate began, her eyes locking on him. “You won’t need to worry about it much longer.” Everyone could of went with out his remarks, but he always needed to have the last word. He’d irked her and as she watched him walk away, it hurt. It hurt a lot. Looking down she moved slightly, her neck craned lightly. “Thank you.” So said, as he mentioned bail. “Kevin, can we just get this over with, please.” Kate questioned as she frowned at Claire who’d stepped up.
“I’m not gonna run.” She managed to slip in before the young Aussie opened her mouth again. Their words, they all tried to help, but it all made her sad. They were going to go to the hotel upset when they should be rejoicing of their return. Kate could take care of herself. She’d done it before, and she’d done it alone. Now was no different. Relieved as Kevin pushed her forward she nodded good bye as she watched her step being careful not to trip.
They arrived at the car, and Kevin clicked the button to unlock the door. He opened the door, leading her to it. As he opened it she avoided his eyes momentarily , ducking her head and getting into the car. “I left because I didn’t want you to get in trouble… they’d fire you. Think you were an accomplis. I couldn’t have that. I loved you, I didn’t want you in jail.” She told him finally almost feeling a weight lift from her chest. When Kevin had said he loved her now though, that was a whole new ball game, and a whole new can of worms. Her stomach twisted uncomfortably, did her heart leap? Of course it did. “I-i-…” She was speechless.

How long is this going to take? Giovanna couldn't stand it anymore, waiting on the freighter for everyone to get off. It seemed like some people just pushed in front of her, which didn't bode well for them. Giovanna was too tired to do any real damage, though, which was a good thing. There was already too much going on with Kate and Sawyer, of course. Yep, it was obvious. Giovanna knew that there would be some sort of drama going on with them once they reached the shore, though she didn't quite know what would happen. The mere thought of ever going back to the civilized world hadn't crossed Giovanna's mind since a couple of weeks after the crash. Even though they had only been there for around three months, it did seem a lot longer.
When Giovanna finally reached the ladder, she climbed down carefully and time seemed to slow down. She wasn't going slowly, but she was getting caught up in what going down that ladder really meant. It meant that she would be going home relatively soon, although home way very far away. It meant that she could use electricity again without going down into a hatch and she could sleep in a nice, comfortable bed again. Sure, she had slept in some of the ones on the island a few times, but it was a lot different than one that was clean and comfortable.
Reaching the ground, Giovanna realized that it wasn't all that different than the island. Ground was ground, or deck in this case, but it was awfully nice to get off that dreaded freighter. Looking around at the other survivors, Giovanna wondered what was going to happen to them all. She had made friendships with some of them that she thought would last forever. Or, at least, she thought that they would last for as long as they were on the island. Because she had thought that that would be forever, she didn't think about ever parting with them, but now there they were, on the docks, ready to part ways. Where would they all go? Giovanna knew that a lot of people lived in different places, from all over the world, but would they all leave right away? No, that would require a plane and she doubted that most of them would want to step foot on a plane now.
Well, Kate was gone at least. But what about the rest of them? Giovanna looked around. Well, Sawyer, Jack and Claire seemed pretty caught up with what was going on with Kate. Giovanna hadn't become friends with her all that well and really only knew her from afar. Giovanna knew that she was wanted for something and she definitely wouldn't have wanted to be in her shoes. But she knew that no one could do anything for her now. Kate was in trouble and there was no escape anymore.
So.. moving on.. Giovanna looked around again at the 'survivors' on the docks. There was no point in thinking about Kate anymore and she had to think about where they would all be going. 'Some beds?' Well, where was that? Any bed was fine with Giovanna at the moment, as she was dead tired, but she did want to know where they would be taking her. She didn't trust his words at all. Some beds... Would they just take some mattresses and throw them on the streets? Okay, so they were all used to living outside in tents and the shelters they managed to make on the island, but surely they wouldn't treat them like that now, would they?
Seeing a fellow face, Giovanna walked over to Marie. "Er... Where do you think they're going to take us?" May be Giovanna had missed the memo, but she felt so lost in the crowd of survivors. Where would they put them all for the night and how could they even afford it? It seemed a little sketchy to her, though everything always did and her paranoia seemed to have increased greatly since arriving on the island. She was back on civilized ground now, but somehow the paranoia that she had held so tight for so many months couldn't leave her just yet. The ride wasn't over.
{ooc:} sorry for the crap / not being here for a while. sickness is still lingering, but at least i'm able to post again... to some extend of crapiness.

Kevin slid into the driver's seat, listening as Kate spoke. He started the car silently and started to drive towards the station. "They would have found out in the end that I didn't know," Kevin said, breaking the silence of the car. "And I would have gotten fired for you, easily. Whatever you have done Mon--Kate--" He found himself correcting his sentence, changing her name to her true one. "Whatever's happened...I would have understood. You have to believe me when I say I'd have understood."
He watched the road, before glancing at her once again. "I-I didn't--I didn't hurt you, did I?" he asked, looking at her arm. It was red. "'Cause...'cause I didn't mean to if I did. I just--" Kevin took a breath in, letting it out in almost a scoff as he shook his head slightly. "Y'know, when I woke up this mornin', I didn't think it was gonna end up like this. I thought--I thought I'd go into work and then I'd come home and go to sleep just like I do every night. But when I heard about the Freighter, when I heard about the fact that y'all were alive, I just--" Kevin shook his head slightly. "You know what 4 days ago was?" he asked, looking over at her. "The day I asked you to marry me." A slight, sad smile hitched on Kevin's lips, but it slowly melted into a frown. "You don't have to tell me why you've done what you did, 'cause I can understand why you lied. Everyone's gotta start somethin' new..." he told her before looking at her. "But you shoulda trusted me enough to tell me. That bastard, he musta done somethin' feirce to make you do what you did. I swear, I will dig up everything I can on him to get you cleared."
Kevin cleared his throat and looked back at the road. "Your bail," he told her, "it ain't gonna be cheap. If they get wind of me wantin' to foot some of it, I could lose my job."

Kate was trying so hard to mean her words, or so Marie believed, but she was unable to take that weight out of her throat and stomach. She didn't care what the cops could hold against her. It had become so easy for her to care about her fellow castaways, and she had absolutely no desire to watch her leave in a police cab. She had forced herself to nod her head at her when she crossed gaze with the woman. It was too late now. They were taking her away. The teenager swallowed hard and took deep breaths to fight the tears of anger that threatened to take over her eyes. She proceeded further away on the docks to let some room to the other passengers that were slipping off the boat. Her green gaze was following the Police cars as they left but she was soon dragged out of her thoughts by a feminine voice.
Marie was almost startled at first, but she met gaze with Giovanna as her very words made their way slowly to her confused brain. The teenager had to breathe out very slowly and to clear her throat in order to make her voice sober and she shrugged to the question. '' I... I don,t know, '' She said, her voice still a little too dry to her likes. '' Some Inn, an Hotel, whatever... '' She stated with two more nervous shrug of her shoulders as she brought her gaze up to the buildings, the cars, the streets... the civilization.
Oh god. They must've docked in Los Angeles, right ? Where the plane was initially taking them. As far as she knew, all the other passengers of Oceanic 815 were adults returning home, but she was just some random delinquent juvenile who had been forced to move to a completely unknown town. She would never find her way around here, all on her own. Now again, she was completely dependant of her new 'family'. She knew nothing of this freaking giant town, not even any significant patrimonial buildings or shit - nothing. The girl bit her bottom lip thoughtfully, realising that she hadn’t felt all that Lost, back on Crack Island.
