It could have been days. Weeks. Years. But Dan was too focused on his thoughts to wonder how long it had been since they had walked away from the Black Rock. Why were they on the Island at all? How had they come back? Had they ever really left to begin with?
Of course, Daniel remembered leaving. He remembered being in Los Angeles. He remembered...dying. Then he remembered waking up on the Island. It was all too confusing, and it made his head hurt just thinking about it. The crack of a fire broke his thoughts, and he realised that they were back on the beach. It was almost dark.
His eyes scanned the shoreline, and through the darkening beach, he saw her, back turned towards him. And instantly, he smiled, relieved, hopeful...
"Charlotte." He breathed. She was alive. "Charlotte!" Of course, he wanted to say so much more, but the words couldn't come out. He moved towards her from across the beach.
"Charlotte!"

She'd been standing near the kitchen, absorbed in her own world as she made herself something to eat. She could have sworn she heard her name be called, but passed it off as the wind - the only other people who were on the beach were Shannon and Ana, and they were off probably trying to kill each other. But she heard her name again, louder, and turned.
The survivors had returned, and she glanced around, searching for who had called her name. He had to be there, because she was sure it had been his voice. She spotted him coming toward her finally, and she ran to meet him.
"Daniel! You're alive!" She said, throwing her arms around his neck in a tight hug. "I thought you were dead!"

She was here. He wasn't imagining it, it wasn't a trick from the ever-mysterious Island...it was just her. Really her. Her arms wrapped around his neck tightly and he felt his own hands going to her waist and then around her torso as he clenched his eyes tight shut for a brief moment before opening them. "I-I saw the news and--and they said you had drowned. Killed yourself! They--They said you killed yourself." He pulled back enough to bring his hands up to her face. "But you're here. You're here now and...and we're here." The last bit, Daniel furrowed his brows slightly. How they had gotten here...well, it was still making Daniel wonder.
"I woke up near a pirate ship."

Charlotte's smile slid quickly into a frown when he said she'd killed herself. Like hell. She'd done no such thing. "Dan, you know me. I would never kill myself. Someone pushed me off that dock, and pulled me under." She said quietly, looking at him. But then she couldn't help but laugh softly at his next words.
"Pirate ship? There's a pirate ship on the Island now?" She inquired. But something was making her curious now. "How did you die Dan? Or did you even?" She asked, searching his face for some reaction to his words, worried she'd offend him by asking. Maybe he hadn't died. Just woke up here. Which was something else she wanted to know - just how in the world they had woken up here.
