This is from an old site.
The seconds fell through the minutes that ticked and the hours that passed by… No one had heard absolutely anything about Desmond or Charlie, and it seemed like she was the only one that was worrying herself to death. Something was incredibly wrong, and Claire wanted to do anything. She’d already checked with Sun, and she told her that she’d have no problem watching Aaron for her. However, before Claire left, she’d get Aaron’s things ready, some extra diapers, some water and a small thing of milk, and of course his blanket. Sure it would have been easier to just have Sun come over and look after him there, but the sun was at it’s highest and she didn’t want Aaron getting a sunburn since all the sun screen had run out.
He was content just laying on her bed as she had reached under his crib grabbing the baby bag she’d managed to find through the rubble of the plain. Sure it was just one of those oversized Paris Hilton like bags that were some how in style, but it served a more important purpose here then just carrying around a Chihuahua. Maybe it was just the right way the sun had hit it, or something, but for a brief moment she was blinded by the extremely bright light that shone into her eye. Squinting slightly Claire looked down, why was Charlie’s ring laying under Aaron’s sheet, and why hadn’t Claire seen this before…
Why the hell was Charlie’s ring not on him? Her thoughts began to race a million miles an hour, Why the hell wasn’t he wearing it! Instantly her mind began making assumptions, he wouldn’t just leave it, that wasn’t Charlie… Was he planning on not coming back? Did Desmond have another Flash back?! “Charlie..” Claire choked as her eyes began to sting, as the brims filled with tears. Her heart was racing, beating rapidly against her ribcage. “No..” She choked again, almost estranged. Aaron’s cries broke her thoughts as he began to kick around having no actual control over what he was doing due to his age. As Claire picked up her son, holding him against her chest, she began to sob, more so then she’d ever done in her entire life… Charlie wasn’t coming back…
In a bloody incoherent mess, Claire had went to Sun asking her to take care of Aaron. She knew something was wrong, but Claire was unable to tell her as she passed off all of Aaron’s things as well as the bundle of joy himself. She needed to go and scream like a random mess. She needed to release the built up emotions that were weighing her down. Why had this happened? There was no way Charlie was alive, leaving the ring… Something that seemed so small and insignificant meant so much in this circumstance.
As she nearly tripped over a tree route she spun around. There was a crack behind her, but as she looked and peered through the trees and bushes, no one was there. It was clear. Claire wrapped her arms around herself as she let the tears fall freely. It wasn’t fair. Was Desmond dead to? No of course not… He knew this was all going to happen… He bloody well knew. He let Charlie die and leave his family. And it wasn’t worth it… As her thoughts pounded inside her head, Claire found herself plummeting to the ground. Another tree root she hadn’t seen due to her incredibly blurry vision thanks to her bloody tears.
Claire pushed herself into a sitting position and up against the bloody tree she’d managed to trip over. For a moment, silence was the only thing that had filled the air. Everything was calm, the smell of earth erupted around her. Then as if it had all clicked once more, Claire broke out sobbing. Her small frame shook beneath the emotional pressure. Why was she even here? “Charlie…” She coughed out resting her head against the tree. “Charlie…” Claire’s voice was a little louder.. It played out like this as she managed to mumble out her cries of his name between her sobs until finally, she screamed.
“CHARLIE.” The pain was terrible. Even though she was a solid thirty minutes from camp, no doubt they’d probably of heard her. Claire knew he was gone. And she’d never see him again. As her entire body shook once more, Claire brought her knees to her chin and curled into a ball. Charlie was gone. So emotionally distraught, Claire hadn’t even noticed she’d cut her arm on a rock when she’d fallen. It was at that exact moment she felt her heart break clean in two.
