“Only spose ta be eight of us? And just how would he know that?” Sawyer countered, narrowing his eyes slightly. This bitch was getting on his nerves. Every thing she’d said since they met was a lie, but that last bit, about what this Widmore told them, that he could believe. Playing the angelic saviour didn’t work for her.
“That right. Workin’ for a man like that, ya don’t sound so innocent yerself, sweetheart,” he said. Now he was the one smirking. “Guess that makes us a bit o’ tha same then, don’t it?”

“Because generally when a plane or another large vehicle carrying over fifty people crashes, most people die." Charlotte stated. "We estimated only a few would be alive, and they wouldn't be much of a problem. Obviously, we were wrong and way off." She continued, rolling her eyes.
"I didn't kill anyone, so I'm in no way like you." She said, looking at Sawyer coldly. "I only volunteered because of reasons you'll never know or begin to understand."

He was getting under her skin, that much was obvious. If nothing else it was at least satisfying to know that he was annoying her just as much as she was annoying him. Well, maybe not just as much, but at least he wasn’t the only one getting irritated here.
“Didn’t kill anyone only ‘cause ya didn’t have to,” Sawyer replied with a grin, retrieving his bottle of beer from the bar and taking a swig. Tilting the neck of the bottle to point at her, he leaned forward slightly as he continued to talk. “Admit it... you’re a little like me...”

Charlotte narrowed her eyes at him again as she finished off her drink, shoving the glass away.
"I'll admit I'm like you in the way that we're both stubborn as hell, and the fact that we've both killed a man - or men - on at least one occassion, accident or intentional." She said, folding her arms across her chest as she looked at Sawyer. She was irratated now, and as time progressed, it was probably only going to get worse.
"But otherwise, we are completely different people that would probably end up killing each other if we were locked in a room long enough."

Caught in yet another lie. This chick really lost her edge when she got pissed, and it only made Sawyer grin wider.
“What happened to I didn’t kill anyone?” he replied, a glint of satisfaction in his eyes. “Changed yer tune pretty quick there, Scarlett.”
He couldn’t deny that last part, though. It was obvious that they more than rubbed each other the wrong way, and the less time they spent together was probably better for both their healths, and those of anyone that might get caught in the middle.

Charlotte mentally kicked herself for letting her mouth get carried away, again. Damn it.... Her lips remained sealed for a moment as she hesitated, staring at the counterspace between them.
"It was an accident." She said slowly. "It was in Tunisia, while were were on a dig there. I was cleaning my gun and it fired off. I hadn't realized it had been loaded." Charlotte explained, glancing at him.
"But I didn't do it on purpose, unlike you."

Her silence only egged him on and Sawyer felt his own anger quickly slipping away and being replaced with satisfaction. With only a short exchange he had turned it all completely around on her and left her flustered. She didn’t seem the easy type to get the upper hand on, but damn if he wasn’t enjoying having accomplished that.
Even after she spoke he remained silent for much longer than necessary, just continuing to grin at her. After a long, uncomfortable moment he turned back to the bar and to his drink.
“Whatever ya say,” was his only reply, the tone of his voice clearly stating that he didn’t believe a single word she had said. The fact that she not only carried a gun, but knew enough to know how to clean it meant she was no stranger to them at all. And if she was some archaeologist on a dig somewhere, why the gun? Even if some sort of protection was required, certainly there would be men stationed there just for that. Nope, didn’t buy that story at all.

Charlotte turned away from him with an irratible sigh. Of course he didn't believe her. Nobody did anymore, and honestly, she didn't care. Resting her chin in her hand, she flicked hair off her shoulder.
"Why don't you believe me then?" She questioned after a moment. "Surprising as it may sound, not every word out of my mouth is a lie. I do actually tell the truth sometimes." Charlotte muttered, ordering another drink, this time Vodka. If she was going to sit with this Southern longer, she needed something much stronger than her previous drink.

Polishing off his beer, Sawyer slid the empty bottle across the bar and motioned for another.
“Liars always say that,” he goaded her further, turning his head to grin at her in an infuriating manner. Hell, just seeing her get all worked up had done wonders for his mood. Maybe he should try this more often. “An’ just why should I believe ya? ?

Charlotte wanted to slap him. Slap the smirk right off his face.
"I honestly don't even care if you believe me, James." She stated, crossing her arms after taking a long drink on her Vodka. "You can call me a liar all you want but I know I'm telling the truth."

“Ain’t that all that matters?” This time when he spoke the smirk had faded slightly and there was a hint of sincerity there. He was no stranger to being accused of things he hadn’t done. Back on the island, as soon as anything went missing, or anything happened, he was the first one that everyone pointed fingers at. Granted, a lot of the time it was true, but there were times that he’d been completely innocent, not that anyone would believe it.
But unlike Charlotte here, he wasn’t about to waste his breath arguing about it. Let them believe whatever they wanted.

"Normally with me, no." She stated, tracing an invisible pattern on the counter. "I like to argue, which should be no surprise." It was the truth; she argue, alot, and she enjoyed it. She hated losing though, and she got pissed off when she did lose.
"But you're right, I probably shouldn't care what the bloody hell people think." Charlotte said, taking another drink. "After all, a lot of things people think are lies."

No surprise at all. The fiery redhead looked like the type to enjoy a good argument, fight, or anything that she could get someone else riled up with. She also seemed to be a sore loser, though, which was bad for her but amusing for Sawyer as he was the one that had bested her.
“Goes right along with what they say,” Sawyer retorted, taking a long draught of his beer. Once this bottle was gone, then so was he. When it came to conversations with this woman, he had the feeling it was better to quit while he was ahead. “Screw ‘em.”

Charlotte simply nodded, staring at the wall behind the bar.
"Where do you plan on going after you get done here? Go back out with the reporters and cameras? Or are you going to flee to another bar?" She asked after a moment, her gaze flickering to Sawyer again as she finished off her glass. She pushed it away from her, deciding to wait a bit before she ordering something else. If she got drunk now, she probably wouldn't make it back to the hotel in one piece.

Taking another drink, Sawyer set the bottle back on the bar and tilted his head to look over at Charlotte.
“I was plannin’ on fleein’ back to tha hotel. Figure tha less time I spent out and about, the less chance I got’a them buzzards findin’ me,” he drawled, flicking his head quickly to get his long, unruly hair out of his eyes. It would be much harder trying to lose them somewhere else so he could get back to the hotel than it would be if he came across them camping outside.
He just knew it was going to be no time before he ended up in jail for pummelling one of those nosy bastards.
