After saying goodbye to Charlotte at the cafe Leah had plans to head back to the hotel, but for some reason she felt like staying out a little longer. She had enjoyed her chat with Charlotte, but missing out on seeing her father was a bit upsetting. All the talk of Sawyer and Miles had confused her a little if she was honest. At one point she didn't know where her head was at never mind her heart.
The crush she had on Sawyer was still there and it was still strong, but she knew it was never going to go anywhere. The only other guy she really liked for some silly reason was Miles, and she wasn't even sure that would even happen. She couldn't see herself being his type. But one thing was for sure, she needed some male company, because she really was beginning to feel very lonely in that department. Sure she had Charlotte, she could call any time for a chat or to meet up, but sometimes you just needed a man's company for a change. She missed the hugs, the kisses, all the small things.
Finding herself a bench, she sat down and looked up to the sky above, it was clear blue even if it was January, but it was cold, she wrapped her jacket around her more tightly to keep herself warmer. She had to admit, it was a good place to just sit and chill and be with your thoughts. This would be a good place in the summer she thought to herself. She was just so glad to be back to civilisation, but how she just wished she could be sitting here holding hands with someone special. So lost in her thoughts, she never even noticed the warm tears sliding down her face which were falling through being lonely.

Coffee. Coffee would keep him awake, and keep him alert. He wondered how long he could keep it up. Charlotte had promised him that she wouldn't go. He took a sip of his coffee, and realised it was cold. The air was cold around him, and Daniel exhailed a breath, watching as a puff appeared in front of his mouth as his head tilted slightly. Los Angeles was cold, but Essex had been colder, much colder as well as Oxford, and Daniel felt himself missing the snow.
His eyes wandered, looking at the various people that were out on the clear, yet cold January morning. His eyes settled on the form of a woman, she looked familer...Leandra? Was that it? Daniel had memorised the names from the manifest, however he wasn't good at putting faces to names. He knew Kate and Juliet and Jack but the others...
He wasn't even sure if she noticed him, and for a second, he opened his mouth and then closed it. He felt himself turn silently, and then turn back. Everyone that had gotten back to the Island had been so unhappy...but wasn't that what these people want to do in the first place? Wasn't that what Jack had said when he had called the sat phone? We're survivors of Oceanic Flight 815 and we want to go home?
He brought a hand up, to his forehead. "Should you be happy?" he asked suddenlly, jerking slightly as he realised he had startled her. He held out a hand slightly, fingers curling. "S-sorry, sorry. Um. S-Shouldn't you be happy?"

Leah was so lost in her own melancholy thoughts, she hadn't even noticed the other person who was in the park near her. When he spoke of her being unhappy, she jumped slightly, but when she looked up and saw Dan, she gave a slight smile. That was when she noticed the tears in her eyes. She quickly put her hand up to wipe them away.
S-sorry, sorry. Um. S-Shouldn't you be happy?...."Dan! Sweetie!" she said in gentle tones with a smile, "I am happy, well happy to be at home at least" she continued. Dare she say what was making her feel so down other than the fact she'd missed out on seeing her father today because of his accident. She could understand why Dan was so bewildered at her being sad, because almost everybody she knew who had got home from the Island were sad for some reason or another, when they should have been ecstatic to be home again.
Dan was such a sweetheart, if it hadn't been for him, they would probably still be on the Island, they all owed him so much. The least everybody could do was pay him with a smile. So she smiled. "I've just not had a very good day, that's all" she tried to explain. "I was due to see my father for the first time since coming home, he had an accident and had to cancel. I've actually just come from a cafe where I was speaking with Charlotte" she explained some more. She wasn't ready to say about being lonely for male company, not yet anyway. She didn't want Dan to take it the wrong way, and well it would be awkward telling Dan she liked Miles, given that they work together. It was bad enough telling Charlotte how she felt about Miles.

He tilted his head slightly as he listened to her speak, about her being happy to be home. But if she was happy, why was she crying? "You don't look happy."
However, she explained her situation, why she was unhappy, and a frown slowly spread on his face. "Oh, an accident? That's...bad." It must not have been as serious as he thought because she was still sitting there, and not at a hospital. Charlotte's name was mentioned, and he felt his eyebrow rise slightly. "Oh." he said, and felt himself swallow slightly before speaking. "If your dad had an accident...then why are you here? Shouldn't you...you know, be with him?"

You don't look happy....She wiped the tears away from her eyes again, and waved her hand slightly. "I know, but I am" she said smiling.
She smiled as he spoke with a few more questions about her father's accident. She really ought to say a minor accident, because he must be thinking she's cruel to be sitting here and not being with her father instead.
"It wasn't a bad accident, he sprained his ankle, I was just looking forward to our shopping trip today, but he says he'll make it tomorrow instead" she said with a smile. "I was in a cafe waiting for him and then I noticed Charlotte there, so when he called to say he couldn't make it, I joined her and we had a lovely chat instead" she explained some more. He still must be wondering why she was so down, when her father's accident wasn't so bad. Really she ought to be jumping up and down with joy at being home, back in the world of clothes and beauty salons.
"There is a little more to it than that though, I'm just not sure you want to here it" she said so as he could stop being so confused about her current state. "Anyway, how's Dan doing these days? Still haven't forgotten all you did for us" she said with a smile.

Daniel arched an eyebrow as she said she was happy. Right. Those were happy tears, Daniel thought almost sarcastically, until his brows narrowed at the mention of her father. "Oh. Well...that's bad. I hope, um...I hope he's...okay." He spoke of Charlotte, and he couldn't help but smile slightly. "That's nice."
She spoke again, asking how he was, and he reminded himself to lie. "Oh, um...I'm--I'm fine." He found himself laughing nervously as she complimented him on what he had done for them, and he brought a hand up, scratching at his forehead. "Yeah, I-I can't be--you know, there's--there were other people on the freighter, I...I can't be the only one credited for it. Yeah, there um...there was other people. They actually did more stuff than I did. I just sort of...stood around and watched."

Leah smiled at Dan when he said he hoped her father would be okay, she was pretty sure he would be. "Oh he'll be fine, he told me not to panic, so I'm really trying not to" she explained with another small wave of her hand. She really had to stop letting her emotions get in the way so much. She could really confuse people with those emotions. How can you be happy but be crying she thought, that's what Dan would be thinking no doubt.
"Yeah it was lovely to see Charlotte again, she's a lovely girl. Hope to meet up for a drink sometime" she said with a grin. It had been a long time since Leah had been on a drinking binge, just like it had been a long time since she had been with a man, so she was sure to enjoy herself.
She listened as he carefully stumbled his way through telling he was fine, but she wasn't sure he was being totally honest with her. Because those stumbles were not from someone who was perfectly alright. "Are you sure you're alright Dan?" she asked softly with a worried look on her face. She hated to think that her friends were upset about anything. Then again maybe his problems weren't something he wanted to share.
"Well of course there were other people on the freighter who helped, but from what I heard you were the one who instigated the whole 'help them off the Island' thing" she said with a warm smile.

"There's just, um, some...things. That have happened that, um--" Daniel reached up, scratching the back of his neck before he curled his fingers around the back of it, feeling how tense it was. Staying up later and later, hardly getting any sleep and hunched over hundreds of pages of data...it'd make anyone tense. "I'm fine." Daniel said slowly, uncurling his fingers from his neck. "I got a call from some universities and I'm just, um...nervous?" he asked, though he knew he wasn't nervous. Not about the colleges at least. All they would have to do would be to look at his transcripts, and Daniel would have gotten the job instantly.
Lea spoke of how he had started the mission to get off the Island, and Daniel shook his head. "No, see, um...they sorta pushed me out of the helicopter when we were going down and I landed on the Island and then I sorta didn't...lie about what we were originally supposed to be doing so I really didn't help. Much." he said, the world ending on a down note. "C-Charlotte, though. She helped. Except when she hit Kate over the head with a gun. That wasn't helping, it just made both of the doctors want to shoot us."

Leah listened as Dan kept trying to speak to her and constantly rambled his way through anything he was trying to say. It was almost kind of sweet in a way. She had this overwhelming urge to just give him a big sisterly hug. But she refrained, she'd probably scare him away. Instead, she just kept smiling and nodding her head every so often understanding.
"Okay then" she replied smiling, she wouldn't push him any further, it wasn't fair, whatever his problems were, he obviously didn't want to talk about them. When someone didn't want to talk about their problems, you didn't push them. Putting a hand on his arm in a protective way she smiled again, "I'm sure what ever it is, it will sort itself out"
Was Dan deliberately not wanting to take any credit for them getting off the Island, or had she really got it wrong and misheard? She shrugged her shoulders. What ever it didn't matter, they helped them off the Island, that's all Leah cared about. She was back home where she belonged.
"Well I still think you helped a lot" she said smiling. "When I said to Charlotte I was thankful to her for helping us off the Island, she was the one who said it was really you who persuaded her to help" she said gently with a smile. The smile turned into a little laugh, "No I don't expect it did help hitting Kate with a gun" Yes, that sounded like Charlotte alright.

When she said it would sort itself out, Daniel found himself nodding slightly. "Um, yeah. I really hope it does, 'cause, um...that'll be very bad." It would be very bad to end up like Eloise, his brain blown all over his skull. The thought didn't sit well with him at all.
Leah spoke of Charlotte, and Dan felt a slight smile cross his face and he found himself laughing nervously. "She did? Yeah...well, Charlotte um...she likes to embellish. A-And not take credit for things--That's--that's good that she does though, but... Frank! Frank flew the helicopter. Miles, um...Miles just sat there and talked about Linus. He didn't do much, but--but not in the way that I did. He mainly just sat there. And then said something about Regina as we were going back to port that I didn't really like." Regina. Daniel hadn't had a problem with Regina and when he found out she had died, it had bothered him.

When Dan said it would be very bad if it didn't sort itself out, Leah began to wonder what it was that was seemingly upsetting him so much. However, he hadn't wanted to talk about it thus far, pushing him probably wouldn't help. She figured she was there, she could listen, if he wanted to talk he would. She smiled at him instead.
"Well I hope it does then" she replied with a nod of the head.
Leah thought she could be bad at rambling, but at least she was only like that when she had too much to drink. Dan seemed to be like that all the time, especially just now. He was obviously finding it very difficult to take compliments from her as well. Constantly giving the gratitude to the rest of the freighter crew and not taking much himself.
"I think you did more to help us than you give yourself credit for" Leah said with a grin. It was true. Charlotte was a very straight talking woman, and she wouldn't say Dan had persuaded her to help them off the Island if it weren't true.
