Any Interesting History?;
Shannon grew up alone with her father, who was a very wealthy man. He spoiled her rotten and lavished her with gifts, but when Shannon was 8, that all changed. Her father, Adam Rutherford, married a woman by the name of Sabrina Carlyle, who already had a 10 year old son, Boone. Now no longer the only person in her father's life, Shannon's relationship with her father became more distant. Instead, the affection she got from him came mostly in the form of unlimited credit cards, which she used extravagantly.
She never formed a close relationship with her step mother, but she was close to her stepbrother, Boone. They were very close, and she confided a lot in him. In time, she came to realize that Boone had a secret crush on her and she exploited this for everything it was worth. She used this knowledge to get whatever she wanted from him, especially when she couldn't get it from her father or Sabrina.
When she was 18 and working as a dance instructor, Shannon's father was killed in a tragic car accident. Shannon was completely devastated by his death. Things got even worse for her, however, when she learned that her father had not left a will. Instead, he'd had a living trust, which passed everything on to Sabrina. No money was designated to Shannon, who quickly began bouncing checks without her father to pay into her account. This prevented her from accepting an internship at a prestigious dance company in New York. Even Boone was unable to come through for her, when his request for money was denied by his mother. Instead, she offered him a job working for her wedding consultant company. Furious, Shannon refused to take any money from Boone, and instead vowed to make her own way.
(Please note: I made this part up, based on my theory of what happened next) Shannon ended up taking a job as an au pair for a wealthy Frenchman whose daughter was in Shannon's dance class. Originally the job had been offered to Shannon's friend, Nora, but she had wisely turned it down. Now Shannon went to him, talked to him, and convinced him ti offer the job to her, which she quickly accepted, despite knowing it would inevitably lead to "more."
Shannon moved with him to St. Tropez, where she was hired to watch the Frenchman's younger son, Laurent. Sophie, the older girl from Shannon's dance class, was sent to boarding school. In addition to watching the boy, Shannon also became romantically involved with her employer, and was even married to him for a brief time, but had the marriage annulled when she found out that he had been cheating on her with another woman at the time. She took the money she had earned, along with a generous severance package, and fled the country.
At first she went home to Los Angeles and Boone. She stayed with him for a short time, but quickly found a new guy willing to give her whatever she wanted. For a few months, she bounced around from man to man, getting Boone to help her bail out when things got rough. Then she met an Australian who was visiting LA on business. Eager to get out of LA and away from Sabrina, who frequently hounded her, Shannon followed him back to Australia. The relationship didn't last long, and she ended up moving into her own house. Then she met Bryan, and got involved with him. After a few months, Shannon called Boone asking for help. But when Boone arrived in Australia, he saw the bruises on her face and was determined to take her home to LA. He even tried to go to the police, but to no avail. Then he paid Bryan $50,00 to stay away from Shannon. Later, Boone went back to Shannon's house, planning to take her with him, only to be told by Bryan that the whole thing had been a setup from the start. She had faked the bruises and the story, in order to get the money she felt she was owed from Sabrina. Bryan and Boone fought, and Boone eventually left, bloodied and bruised.
Later, Shannon came to his hotel room, having had a little too much to drink. She told him that Bryan had taken the money and ditched her. Now she had nothing again. While under the influence, Shannon told him that she knew he'd come, that he'd always come to help her, because he was in love with her. Though Boone denied it, Shannon told him that she'd always known it. She moved closer to him and kissed him. He was unable to resist, and they ended up sleeping together.
The next morning, Shannon told him that they would go back to LA together and everything would be like it was. They would not tell anyone about their night together, especially not Sabrina. Boone had no choice but to agree.
They went to the airport, intending to take Flight 815, but when the flight was over-booked, they were informed that they could not ride in First Class. Originally, they settled for seats in the middle section and ended up on Craphole Island. Shannon had fallen in love with Sayid Jarrah, while Boone was killed when an old plane he was in fell out of the tree where it had crashed. Shannon was killed a few weeks later, when she found herself in the path of Ana-Lucia Cortez, who thought she was one of the murdering, kidnapping "Others."
Shannon has no memory of her time on the island. Instead, she remembers forcing Boone to change to a later flight so that they could ride in First Class. As far as she remembers, they arrived in LA safe and sound. Since then, she has been staying in a small apartment on her own, using the money Boone gave her to pay her rent while she searches for a job. But as always, she's also looking for a man to "take care" of her. However, she also finds that she's longing for something a little more than just money...
Anything else we should know?; She's been particularly vulnerable since arriving in LA. Learning of the crash of the plane she had almost taken haunts her, and she's suffering from strange nightmares that she can't explain.
Four Sample Paragraph AS that character;;
She was running. Something, she didn't know what, was chasing her, and she screamed Boone's name. He was in front of her, running as fast as he could. He was leaving her in his dust, the bastard. "BOONE!" she shrieked. But he didn't answer, or even slow down. He was too far ahead.
An icy cold feeling crept up her spine and she let out another scream. "Get away from me!" she cried, tears scalding her eyes. She felt in that second, an absolute certainty that she was going to die. She chanced a quick look over her shoulder to see what was chasing her. But all she could see was a swirling cloud of black smoke.
This didn't make sense. Why was the smoke chasing her? And why was she running from it? Smoke was just smoke, right? The stitch in her side was becoming impossible to bear. If she kept running, she would pass out. But before she could stop, she tripped on a tree root and hit the ground, hard.
Screaming again, Shannon looked up at the cloud of smoke as it advanced toward her as if it were a solid, living object. But when it reached her, suddenly, it stopped, hovering strangely in midair. The effect was surreal. "What are you?" she cried. "What do you want from us?"
Then, without warning, the cloud seemed to dissipate, and in its place was a little boy of about 10 years old. He spoke, but the words made no sense. It was as if he was speaking backwards....
Shannon sat up abruptly in bed. She was coated in sweat, and her heart was racing. She struggled to regain her breath, even as her hands felt around for her phone.
Pressing the autodial number for Boone's cell phone, she raised the phone to her lips and waited for him to answer. When she heard the familiar click, followed by his voice, she let out a sigh of relief. "Boone...." she whispered shakily. "I... I had another one."
