As Charlotte spoke of her toast that would turn into ashes, Daniel glanced back at her slightly with a smile. "Like powdered toast."
Charlotte spoke of his caretaker, and Daniel focused back on the menu. "She cooked me food and made sure I woke up after I went to sleep." That...that was the main thing. Waking up. Making sure he didn't sleep forever, even when his mind wanted him to so bad. "They, um...they thought that I had something wrong because I slept alot. The-The sleeping made my mind stop racing, so--so I slept as much as I could. But the doctors they...they didn't understand that much."
The elevator dinged, and Daniel let her exit before exiting the elevator after her. He quickly moved past her to the door. "She--She was the only one I told a-about everything. And she...well, she didn't believe me. At all. She used to smile and say "Okay, Dan." and then she'd cook me--" Daniel looked down at the door, swiping the keycard to enter his room. "She'd cook me eggs and say that I'd get better soon."

She laughed. "Powdered toast doesn't even sound the least bit appetizing. It'd probably taste like dirt or something."
"Doctors are overrated. They think they know everything just because they went to medical school for a few years and have a nice little degree they can stick on the walls of their offices." She muttered with a slight eyeroll. "If sleeping helps you, calming your mind and stuff, you should sleep. For as long as you need to."
She left the elevator, smiling in thanks as Dan let her pass before him. She continued to walk along side of him as they headed for his room, her towel still wrapped around her. Charlotte figured she was dry enough, so it wouldn't really matter. If needed, she either go up a floor to her room or sneak one of Dan's shirts until later. "Well, she was a bit stupid then, wasn't she? Not to believe you?" She questioned, watching as he swiped his key. "And what? Did she think you had some sort of sickness too by saying 'you'll get better soon'? That's crazy."

"She--she didn't believe me. She, um--" Daniel brought a hand up, scratching at his forehead as he laughed, almost nervously. "Um, no one really believes me? Or...or seems to understand me, so I'm sort of...used to it by now? Yeah, I'm--I'm used to it. A-And I don't think she meant anything by it, because--because she wasn't mean about it like Miles is. She just...she wants the best for me. A-And I'm not going to, you know...fault her for it, because she needed a job."
Daniel noticed that she was still soaking wet, and he pointed towards the bathroom in the bedroom. "There's--there's a bathroom and a shower if you want. I'll call the room service. You want a hamburger, right?"

"You're right I suppose. Miles is a jerk about most things." She muttered, an angry look briefly crossing her face. "I'm going to end up killing him soon enough." She sighed. "But - I understand you, so no need to worry about that. If she didn't, I suppose it isn't her fault for knowing the sort of thing...." She trailed off slightly.
"Thanks." She smiled gratefully, knowing if she didn't get a shower like she had promised to get the cholrine out of her hair, he'd probably get after her for it. "And yeah, a hamburger sounds great." Charlotte added before disappearing into the bathroom, quietly shutting the door behind her.
She rinsed the cholrine from her hair, not really wanting her normal red hair to change to the disgusting green or some other color chlorine could change it to. Charlotte quickly dried off - only then to realize she had no clothes to change into. A frown crossed her face as she pulled her swimsuit back on. She didn't really want to keep Daniel waiting - and probably becoming bored waiting on her.
She came out a moment later, dressed in an overlarge blue button up shirt that belonged to Daniel - the only thing she could find that would at least keep her from freezing until she got back up to her room to change. The color in her cheeks rose slightly, but she ignored it as she grinned meekly at Dan. "Sorry - I'll change out of it when I go back upstairs."

As Charlotte moved to the bathroom, Daniel grabbed the menu, moving to sit cross-legged on the large couch. He grabbed the phone, dialing the operator. Room Service picked up two moments later, and Daniel moved to scratch an itch on the back of his neck.
“Uh, hi, yeah—hi. Hi, I want two hamburgers. With, um…with fries, yeah. What? Oh, um…coke, I guess, and hey, Charlotte, you want—“ Daniel looked up, seeing Charlotte clad in nothing more than his pale-blue shirt, and his words instantly left him. She was…beautiful. In his shirt. Where had she gotten his shirt from? Oh, the bedroom. Which held the bathroom in it. His speech was even more broken than normal, and his words were mere whispers. “…uh, you—you want—“
“Hey buddy! HEY!”
“Wha—“ Daniel started, looking back towards the phone. “What, what? Drinks? Oh, drinks! Right. Yeah. Um…drinks, yeah.” Daniel looked up and over at Charlotte, hoping that the blush didn’t rise to his cheeks and his heart thump out of his throat and do a dying fish imitation on the table. Which was impossible, he knew, however—
“DRINKS, BUDDY! NOW!” Daniel winced at the man’s loud tone, even over the phone before he looked at Charlotte.
“Coke?”

Her cheeks grew hot again as she moved to sit in the armchair, folding her legs underneath her, nodding when he asked her about a Coke. "That's fine. " She murmured, playing with the cuff of his shirt absentmindedly. It was frayed slightly, and figured this was one of the ones he had worn back on the island. She stared at the table for a moment as she waited for Daniel to get off the phone, wincing herself at the man's loud tone.
"So rude." She muttered, rolling her eyes slightly. "Just because it's almost three in the morning doesn't mean they have to be such jerks about things." Charlotte stated, folding her arms across her chest, the sleeves of the shirt covering her hands as she did so. She smiled at Dan. "A hamburger is starting to sound better. I didn't realize how hungry I was getting." She murmured softly.

As he hung up the phone, he arched an eyebrow as she said the word 'rude'. "Yeah, well..." he shrugged slightly. "I-I mean, it's their job, so...so yeah, they should just do it." He brought his knees up to his chest for a moment, before he looked over at Charlotte. "If--if you could change one thing about this entire situation--the whole freighter...thing, the--the survivors, anything, what would you change?"
He wasn't sure what he'd change. He'd stop the flashes to places he didn't remember, to the Island and the headaches. The nosebleeds. The mind-numbing after effects. He'd stop all of that because...well, he knew he didn't want to go back to the Island. The Island was dangerous. "I-I wouldn't change alot of it because, um...because I wouldn't have met you and if I hadn't met you I really don't think I'd be...sitting here now actually talking like this? I think--I think I'd be one of those rare people who lost their minds at 35."

She pondered the question thoughtfully, slightly unsure of how to answer. One thing to change? There were a few things she would change, but she had to pick one. As she though about it, she listened to Daniel.
"You wouldn't loose your mind Dan." Charlotte said softly, shaking her head. Even though she wasn't sure - Dan had told her earlier that she was the one who kept him linear most of the time, and without her, well, she wasn't sure what would happen. He would have probably gone to some level of crazy she guessed, but shook her head again, getting the thoughts out of her mind.
"If I could change one thing...." She repeated. It wouldn't be the survivors - as annoying as they were, they saved her the fact of getting lost on the island when she had parachuted in. "I would change either how we were forced to parachute in, or having Naomi as team leader." She stated. She knew they were slightly lame choices - but Charlotte wasn't to fond of having to jump from a helicopter when Frank had put it down safely anyway. And she hated Naomi with a passion - she didn't know why, she just did. "Or the fact that within the first day on the island, I was shot by Benjamin Linus and held hostage at the Village of the Idiots."

"I-I didn't like jumping out of the helicopter. Um, well, being...being pushed. I didn't like being pushed out of the helecopter. That--that I didn't like."
Sure, Naomi had been rude, but he had tried to stay away from the woman as much as possible. But when Charlotte spoke of Ben shooting her, he frowned deeply. "I-I would change that. I would change that becuase he shouldn't have shot you. Even if you were wearing a vest he--he still shouldn't have shot you."
Daniel knew if he had been there, he would have shot Ben on site. And Daniel hated guns. However, he hadn't been there, and Charlotte was fine. So that was a plus. He held up three fingers. "A-And that was three. Three. Um, four if you counted being trapped by the Village of the Idiots. Then--then four." He let himself smile slightly.

"I slapped Miles upside the head for pushing you out of the helicopter too." She grinned. "And I shoved him out before I jumped." Yeah, that was smart of her. Jumping out, only to be knocked unconsious on a tree branch. That was LOADS of fun.
Charlotte shrugged lightly. "Things happen I guess. I'm just glad I had that vest - Miles lent me his because I couldn't find mine." She murmured softly. "If he hadn't - well.... I might not be sitting here talking." She continued. She'd either be dead, or she'd have a scar on her chest. Absentmindedly, her hand went to her chest where the bullet at hit her vest. "It still hurt like hell though." She added with a light smile. It had felt like someone had kicked her hard in the chest, knocking all of the air out of her lungs.
She laughed softly.
"I suppose I could live without changing the village. The only things bad was they kept me locked in that bald guy's basement - that was thrilling. At least it wasn't that boathouse like Miles had been locked it." She continued, leaning back in the chair and looking back at Daniel. "So we can scratch that off and make it three." She grinned.

At the mention of slapping Miles, a slight smile spread on Daniel's face. "I just wish we would have landed in the same area. I worried about you. And then I met Jack and his people and...yeah. I just wish we would have landed near each other.
As she leaned back in the chair, Daniel brought his knees to his chest on the sofa, watching her speak. "Miles should have been left in that boathouse."
However, that brought memories of the Island back. He knew deep down that Charlotte wanted to go back. For...for some strange reason that he didn't understand. She said she wanted to know where she was born, yeah, but...it still didn't make any sense.
"I-I like you." he said suddenlly, surprising even himself at the statement that had been floating around his brain, but never even had the guts to come from his mouth. "And--and--" he narrowed his brows slightly, wishing like hell he could stop himself, but how could you stop yourself when you didn't even know what you were saying?
"And, uh...yeah. I'm glad you're here and not on the Island with a hole in your chest."

"Yeah, landing near one another would have saved a lot of trouble." She agreed, then laughed. "And I wouldn't have complained if they let him stay in that boathouse. I would conviently forget about him until we were halfway back to Los Angeles." Charlotte grinned.
She reached up and tucked a strand of damp hair behind her ear, swiping it from her face. She still couldn't really believe they were sitting her, talking, as if it wasn't nearly three or four in the morning. The corners of her lips twitched slightly, as if she wanted to smile, but then thought better of it.
Charlotte blinked at Daniel for a moment, pale blue eyes staring at him. Then she let the smile form on her face. She already knew he liked her - it wasn't like it wasn't obvious. But he didn't know that she knew - well, up until now when he had just blurted it out. Absentmindedly, her hands were playing with the cuff of his shirt that she wore again.
"I like you too Daniel." She stated after a moment, the smile still lightly spread out across her face. She looked back up at him for a moment before reaching over, entwining her fingers with his.
"A lot. And I'm glad I'm not back there with a hole in my chest either."

As her fingers curled around his, Daniel looked over at her. She said she liked him! But...but why? Partly, it didn't matter because she said she liked him and that was all that matters. Alot, apparently, as she stated.
As she moved closer to him, he released his knees, moving to her. It felt strange, but yet, felt okay. Right. Normal. Charlotte was someone that listened to him, even when even he wasn't sure if he was making sense. As his thumb ran across the top of her hand, he moved, slowly leaning his head onto her shoulder. "Why do you like me?"

She smiled slightly. "I'm actually surprised you even had to ask Daniel." Charlotte stated softly. "You're brilliant, for one. You actually tolerate me, unlike some," She paused her thoughts briefly flickering to Miles. "And I understand you probably more than most of the bloody teachers at Oxford do." She continued, her voice still quiet.
"I like everything about you Dan - probably more than what you realize." Charlotte said, looking back up at him as his thumb brushed over the tops of her fingers. "You're nice, sweet and funny, and a lot of things other guys aren't - and will never be."

She smelled nice, Daniel thought as he took a breath in through his nose. His eyes closed as she said all the reasons why she liked him.
"I like your hair." Daniel said after a moment, his eyes slowly opening. He was suddenlly tired beyond belief, but if he fell asleep, he'd see it again. He'd see horrible things, and he didn't want to see horrible things. His hand clenched tighter to hers as the thought flittered into his brain.
"A-And not just your hair, I like the way you smile. The way--the way your face lights up when something's funny. And how you helped me on the Island with my memory when other people just said it was because I hit my head when I landed. I like that. It's nice."
He blinked tiredly. "You...you're gonna have to keep me awake because...because if I go to sleep I'll see it again and I don't want to."
