“Aaron please…” Kate hushed, her eyes slowly shutting. It was at this point her head was pounding and felt like it was going to explode. Sleep. She’d finally gotten some at 4am in the morning. And not much mind you, Aaron had woken her up promptly at 6:32 am. Kate was certain this was his way of slowly trying to get back at her for being the reason his mother was now in Santa Rosa. The morning had went painfully as Aaron refused to eat absolutely anything, and as the minutes ticked on, Kate was beinnging to feel more and more like a failure.
“Aaron, come on, just…” Frustration was building, and at this moment, Kate wanted nothing more then to jump off LA’s highest bridge. “God dammit!” She mumbled, as her one had flew to her temple massaging it. The other remained cradled under Aaron. All she could do was inhale deeply, the ‘fresh’ air of LA getting stuck in her throat. It was nothing compared to the island air which still lingered in the back of her mind.
The park seemed to be the only place she could go with out reporters hassling her at every turn. Maybe it was the fact it was so big, or the fact it was the last place many would expect Kate Austen to be. If Jack could see her right now, Kate wondered if he’d take back the ‘you’d make a good mother’ comment, because now, she was feeling more and more like the opposite. It was moments like this Kate would of much rather reliving the bloody crash.

Miles went for a stroll in the park before heading to the boardwalk. Maybe they hadn't cleaned up the picture he had of Ben in the fountain but he was sure that they had. He casually walked past and checked in the fountain, but all traces of anything disposed in there was gone. And it was such a handsome headshot too, Miles joked to himself and let out a wry little laugh, not caring about looking strange to the early morning joggers that passed. He heard a baby crying and he stopped. Why did people bring children to places like this? Why did incompetent people even have children in the first place? He screwed up his nose and looked over to where a woman was trying to hush her baby. He heard her 'Goddammnit' and smirked. Nobody should have children... especially not mothers like this.
He was actually pretty good with babies though, as much as didn't want to have one himself. He approached the woman from the back.
"Need any help there? I'm actually..." he was about to say how good he was with children until he went in front of the woman and saw her face. "Katherine Ann Austen" he shook his head in partial disbelief. He squinted and looked at the baby for a second, crouching a little to inspect the thing in her hands. "You know this baby's not yours right?" He asked when he stood again, with an amused eyebrow cocked. "And I'd hate to see a whole 'dingo ate my baby' cry from the real mother, so how about you tell me why you're the one holding it?"
Last Miles heard, Claire hadn't given up her parental rights, so whatever reason Kate had besides her own maternal yearnings had to be pretty amusing.

Kate thankfully was completely oblivious to absolutely anything everyone was thinking around her, and it was probably a good thing because it simply would have added to her terrible mood. Despite Aaron’s infant stage, he most likely knew something was going on – something that involved his mother being kept from him , no child would like that, and certainly no child would be happy through the process, and that’s possibly what made this so frustrating. Kate didn’t have much experience with children, the basics she knew , on top of that, she only knew a minimal amount more.
As if the day hadn’t been splendid enough with out the sarcastic familure tone Kate had grown to know as Miles – the ghost hunter, or what ever he wanted to call himself. “Miles..” she replied, eyes shut for a moment, her teeth clenched. If he was trying to even for a minute fool her that he’d be good with children she would laugh in his face right then and there. The sarcastic morbid bastard didn’t wear the father gene on his sleeve.
“It? His name is Aaron.” He eyes locked onto his and for a moment, she wanted to punch him. It wasn’t any of his business what any of the Oceanic 815’ers were up to or anything. “I’m baby sitting.”
[Sorry for the long wait!]

"And doing a hell of a job of it" Miles noted, as the baby continued to bawl. He wasn't so sure that Kate hadn't baby-napped it, considering her age and the way women got. "Look, how about you give me Aaron. I'm good with kids. You need someone to keep him quiet" he offered and put out his arms.
"So Claire knows right?" He asked, semi-interested. Claire actually didn't seem too bad. Stayed out of everyone's business. Was friendly enough. Wasn't sure about Kate though, with her past anyone would be stupid to trust her as far as they could throw her.

Kate bit her tongue as she glared at Miles. The man really knew how to push buttons, and that was a little to obvious as he stood there with a shit eating grin perched upon his face. With a small sigh, Kate laid Aaron back into a laying position and began rocking him slightly. “C’mon Aaron.” She smiled quietly. “I think next to Charles Manson, you’re about the last person I’m willing to give him to, but thanks for the help.” She told him sarcastically, her tone icy. With the stress, and everything that could happen, Kate didn’t need this little dweeb stressing and causing havoc any where else.
A split second of hesitation fell over the air as she watched. “Yes, Claire knows, she asked me to watch him.” Kate lied. She was going to hell regardless, but telling Miles the truth at this point would only cause more problems then he was worth. “Don’t you have something to do? Haunted house to investigate?” A snarky reply matched her glare as she looked off down the side walk looking for a good exit.

"Your loss" Miles said with a shrug as she turned him down. He continued to ignore her, just like it seemed that the baby was doing (by still crying it's eyes out) as she made the mention of haunted houses. Oooh, original he thought bitterly.
He wasn't going to give her the dignity of responding to such a stupid question. "So, how's your boyfriend?" Miles asked, noting the way Kate was making eyes at two guys in particular on the freighter home. "Wait one second... are you with the blonde one with the smart mouth and the dead guy on his back now, or are you with the doctor with a savior complex?" Miles feigned interest, knowing it would piss her off. "Cause I'm confused."
