"Yeah, they'll let me see him but uncle Jack is apparently the be all and end all when it comes to having a say in what they do with my son. Someone that I didn't even know about until a couple of hours ago." He stared out to space for a moment, giving a small polite laugh when she said she couldn't paint.
"Well, if everybody could do it, I'd be out of a job now, wouldn't I?" Thomas told her as a bit of a joke, but he wasn't usually very good at joking. That didn't mean that he didn't try though.
"Widmore labs right?" He asked. It was a natural connection. Doctor - Widmore Labs. But he could have been right off the mark, Widmore dabbled in a lot of things. "Yeah, I don't know why he's shown so much interest" Thomas said, "but I'm not complaining. It's good to have someone that appreciates your work."

"I don't know Jack that well either. He works at the same hospital as me and we chat during breaks sometimes, but that's about the extent of it." Alice muttered. "But yeah - he doesn't have the right to just take the baby away from his father, unless the kid was signed over legally into his care until Ms. Littleton get's better."
She laughed and nodded. "I suppose you would be out of a job. I just wish I was more creative sometimes." She said, smiling slightly as she took another drink of soda.
Alice nodded. "Yeah - they merged with Widmore Labs when I was little - Widmore's company had just gained global productions." She muttered. "But yeah, it is good for someone to be interested like that."

"That's the thing..." Thomas began, feeling a little stressed out. "I have no idea what rights or legal documents that Jack has... he hasn't been forthcoming with me about anything. I don't even know where he's keeping Claire!"
He tried to calm himself down for a moment, getting anxious about this wasn't helping anyone. "Anyway, I can always teach you how to paint if you wanted to try" he told her, his voice calmer.
"Was it a merge or a takeover?" Thomas asked about Widmore labs. 'Merge' might have been the polite word for it, but he was sure any revenues they were getting would have been on a low scale comparitively.

"According to another article, she's in Santa Rosa's mental institution, whil he takes care of the baby at his home - I'm assuming at least." Alice replied quietly.
"Nah, it's fine. I'll stick to my doctoring - may sound weird but I find it fun." She laughed. "I love working with the little chldren especially - they're so funny sometimes."
Alice frowned slightly. "I believe it was a bit of both. Dad agreed to merge with them - but Widmore pretty much took over the company." She stated, shoving her hands back into the pockets of her coat.

"That's what these corporations do" Thomas said with a scowl. "Part of why I wanted to be a painter and not deal wih that junk."
He finally comprehended her earlier statement. "Santa Rosa's? What's wrong with her?" His tone sounded frantic. He had to remember that this woman knew about as much as he did. "Sorry... it's just... I guess I thought I'd come here, admit to all my mistakes and everything could go back as they were supposed to be... But I guess that never happens."

"It's why I never got into business either. Much too stupid in my opinon, really." Alice stated with a slight face. Business never had interested her, even as her father and mother both wanted her to persue it.
"I'm not sure about that. Just that they placed her in there until she was better." Alice said. "Sorry, or I'd tell you more if I knew it." She really was sorry. She would have likes to have told him more, but she knew just as much as he did.
"And I know what you mean. A lot of people try to do that, but it usually never works. You have to make up your mistakes with other good things. Just admitting you were wrong won't work." Alice told him softly.

"Yeah... I just never expected this" Thomas was still playing with his hurt hand bending back the knuckles, but rather absently, as if he wasn't feeling any pain from it yet. "Sometimes I think I could just stay in my little cocoon I built in Australia and never have to leave... but it's funny how things work."
He shrugged and continued to graze one hand along his knuckle. "So have you always lived in L.A?"

"Yeah, things never seem to work out in the way you plan them do they?" Alice sighed, a frown crossing her lips for a brief moment. "But in the end it usually turns out good - depending on how you look at it I suppose."
Alice shook her head. "No, I actually grew up in France. I lived in New York for a little while after that - then I moved here a few years ago." She told him with a small smile. "It's been my favorite place so far though. But what about you? I'm assuming you live in Austrailia?"

[ooc: it's short because work just called me in. grrr!]
"Born and bred" Thomas said proudly. "It's only the best place you've been because you haven't been to Australia." He told her. "So what's France like?"

She laughed.
"I'll have to put it into my plans to go to Australia then." She told him. Alice smiled.
"France is lovely. Especially Paris - at night it's all lit up. The gardens around the Eiffel Tower is amazing lit up at night." She said fondly. "It's very pretty though. I think you might like it - unless you're used to heat. It doesn't get very warm there most times."

"I'm used to heat, but I think I could stand the cold to see the architecture" he said reciprocating her smile. It was good to speak about something that wasn't so depressing anymore. "I thought your accent was a little French. It's actually pretty refreshing..." he told her. "Must make all the kids smile to hear you talk as well" he said lightly.

"I've tried very hard to rid myself of the accent - but it doesn't seem to want to leave." She sighed, then smiled. "Yes, some of them do say I talk funny - usually the little boys. The girls think it's very pretty and some of them want me to teach them how." Alice laughed. "It kinda funny and cute all at the same time.
Folding her arms over her chest, she looked back up at Thomas from where she had previously been staring at a few dead leaves near her feet. "And I notice your accent if Australian as well. It's different - but I do like it."

"It's unbelievable how natural you seem with kids. I just wish I was like you" he said politely. He didn't know if he ever would be.
"It's different" he smirked at what she thought of his own accent. "Well, I'll have to teach you some Aussie slang then. That's really different."
He held up his hand all of a sudden. "So, is there anything I need for this... you know, in your professional opinion."

"If you're around them as much as I, you can't help but be good with them." Alice replied softly with a small shrug. "I can't help but get along with them though."
She laughed when he mentioned teaching her Aussie slang. "I doubt I'll get the hang of it, but you could try." She smiled. "But what's it like in Australia?"
She looked at his hand. "No, not unless you want to put some disinfectant on the small cuts from the bark. Otherwise it should heal just fine - but your knuckle bones aren't going to be feeling so hot tomorrow morning."

"Well, you should know G'day right?" He asked regarding Aussie slang. "Everybody knows G'day." He closed his eyes for a second, breathing in the air around him. Sure, this park was nice enough, but it wasn't the same as back home. "Much better than this place" he told her this time about his hometown. "Australia is... freakishly hot all year 'round, has pretty much all the most dangerous creatures in the world there... yet can be so amazing calm and placid of a place to live. You can just rest by the seaside, providing the jellyfish don't get you."
He looked down at his knuckles. He supposed they were the least of his concerns right now. "I don't think anything about me is going to be feeling too crash hot tomorrow morning" he admitted. "Not if this day has anything to do with it."
