The Captain was doing something.
The waves still were slower, but the Captain had assured him that nothing was wrong. They were still going the same speed as before. But as Daniel looked out at the waves, there was something wrong. Daniel had made his way from the back of the ship where he and Charlotte had been, to the front, standing in the openness by the helicopter pad. A sound behind him made him turn, seeing Claire. She was the pregnant one. Former pregnant one. She had a baby. Daniel's mind swirled with the possibilities of that, and how it was actually impossible, and yet...her baby was well, and alive. Wasn't she supposed to be sleeping? "Uh...a-aren't you supposed to be..." he pointed to the deck, meaning sleeping below decks. "The rest of them are..."
He wasn't about to tell Claire about the waves, at least...not yet. Though, he should have, he told himself. She should know what possible danger she could have been in. Danger. Why was it all the sudden danger? The Captain had a perfectly good reason, Daniel told himself.
However, the thought of the Island knew that danger could be around every corner. Even on a Freighter.

For a simple moment, her blue eyes looked out upon the blue water that had taken the life of the man she loved, and the only man she knew wouldn’t let her down. These waters had claimed Charlie Pace and Claire couldn’t have been more heart broken. If it meant that he’d be alive, she’d spend every last moment on this island, as long as she could be with him. The blonde aussie held Aaron close to her chest as the breeze past over them. Aaron would soon be asleep soon since he had already been rubbing his eyes.
Claire wouldn’t be able to sleep now. It was impossible. The mere thought of them getting rescued seem to linger on the surface of her mind, refusing to sink in. Maybe it was simply because she felt there wasn’t anything to go back to. Their entire time trying to get off the island Claire hadn’t ever even really though as to why they wanted off. With a deep sigh she lowered her head and placed a kiss on Aaron’s head, her eyes slowly shutting. When Claire heard Dan’s voice she looked over, she’d forgotten that she wasn’t the only one out here. “Oh, no, I won’t be able to.” She said, forcing a smile, one that hid so much. “what are you doing?” She questioned attempting to show interest as she walked towards him, her bottom lip remaining in her teeth.
“I mean, the rest of them are sleeping.” She smiled in a slightly playful manner.

She was upset. That was easy to see, though Dan was unsure why. He hadn't asked, though some of them, such as the large man, Hurley, was it? He seemed upset the moment he stepped on the freighter. Dan hadn't asked why; it wasn't his place. However, the curisoty was there.
Claire spoke, asking him what he was doing, and he looked with slightly wide eyes down at his journal. "Oh, I, uh," he brought a hand to his head, trying to figure out how he would explain it to Claire. "We've, um...we've taken longer than I've figured to get this far." he explained. "There's something still not right." He took in a breath, his mouth opened slightly as he blinked, and then wrote something down. "We should be close to Los Angeles within a day or so. A full day, if we keep this course."
She still was upset, and Dan couldn't help his curiousity any longer. "You were upset when you got on board. Shouldn't you be happy? You're going home." he offered as happily as he could make it. "At least you're not like your friend...Desmond." Desmond still didn't remember anything. It didn't surprise Daniel in the least, but he wasn't going to mention that to Claire. At least, not now.

Claire watched as he seemed a little nervous, or maybe he was just twitchy… It was hard to tell with him. “Taken longer? Is something wrong?” her tone was concerned. What was wrong? Would they end up on yet again another island in a few hours? Or maybe a week later if they’d gotten taken of track? It didn’t matter to her right now what happened as long as Aaron would be okay. “A day? That’s not so bad is it?” Claire’s eyes glanced across the calm water, the moon and stars reflecting on the glass like surface until the waves from the boat would screw it up.
Hoisting Aaron up further she felt him lean his head on her shoulder, he may have already been asleep, she was unsure since his face was looking out from her. Claire’s hand came up and laid on his back, rubbing it lightly. “I should be.” She nodded, her head turning back towards him. But what was she going home to? Chances were her aunt had pulled the plug on her mother, her apartment had been cleaned out, they’d all been presumed dead, and… She had no one to go back to. Why was there anything to be happy about? She would leave the family and friends she’d gained on the island and move back into a life style that would toss her around. “Poor Desmond.” Claire said softly, feeling Aaron go completely limp. “D’you know what’s happened to him? Is he going to get better?’
Desmond… the last man to see Charlie alive. Desmond, the person to know Charlie was going to die. Claire didn’t know what to think towards him, it hurt her so much to know that he’d know.. they’d known, and yet, no one had told her or Aaron. Claire, well, she hadn’t a chance to talk to Desmond before the freighter. Everything was so hectic, and since Desmond went with Jack, Claire hadn’t her chance to speak with him and find out exactly what happened. Now, she would never know. Never know what Desmond knew, or how Charlie went. Claire took a deep breath and shut her eyes, feeling the burning sensation start. She’d already shed too many tears, and now wasn’t the time for more. Eventually her eyes fluttered open, inviting the cool air to wash over them.

"I said 'if'." Dan said. "If we stay on course." He wasn't sure how far the island's reach went, how far the oddities stretched, and as he turned to look at the water, the light...it didn't shift. Claire spoke of Desmond, and Daniel honestly wasn't sure how to answer her. "I don't know." he said after a moment. "He may. He may not. I just.... I didn't--it's not supposed to happen like this. The island...it's screwed everything up." If that wasn't the understatement of the year. He hadn't expected the time delays, nor the delays even ont he freighter, he hadn't expected the same thing that happened to the other crew member to happen to Desmond...or maybe he had. "I don't know whether he's going to get better."
Maybe he had expected all of it, and his brain was just moving too fast again. He brought a hand up, shaking his head. "You people are lucky to get off that island." Daniel said in a rare moment of true honesty. "I'm surprised it hadn't taken you and torn you apart. But then again, none of you noticed besides the obveious things." They still didn't understand what was truely wrong with the island. The time. The light. Everything was different and everything was wrong. Daniel could feel the chill travel up his arms, and he moved, rubbing at them for a moment. And now...things were starting to be wrong on the Freighter, and that worried Daniel. Not enough to start a panic...but it worried him greatly.

“Well, it won’t be too hard will it? To stay on course?” Claire’s tone was a little hushed not wanting to wake Aaron although she knew if he was able to pass out in her arms he wouldn’t wake up from their conversation. “I hope he does… It’s so sad seeing him like that..” She didn’t like it , he didn’t deserve to lose his memory.. But then again, if they were getting off, he’d have no recollection of his solid isolation and how alone he’d been with out Penny… Maybe it was for the best? Maybe he’d be happier this way.
With this… Desmond would be unable to remember how much pain he’d caused Claire, and that would be better for him. Desmond would be unable to remember how he’d saved Charlie from death more then once, or how Charlie died for all of them... Looking down her Aaron in her arms she blinked slowly, “I hope Penny can meet us when we get there..” Claire knew how much she met to him, and it broke her heart a little. At least Penny would be there waiting for him. Charlie however, wouldn’t be waiting for her.
Why did these thoughts choose to over take her mind at this moment? “Screwed things up? Like what?” Was Daniel blaming the island for Desmond’s amnesia? Claire laughed In the pure irony of it all, it was sarcastic, and morbid all in the same, dark even. “It’s torn me apart quite a bit.” She told him quietly sitting down next to him, Aaron was beginning to get heavy. “What do you mean we never noticed?” What was he going on about?

Daniel looked out towards the ocean again. "You never noticed the light?" Daniel asked, almost shocked. Well, of course they didn't. They didn't notice half the things that were going on at the Island. But the light...the time... "I noticed it the minute I landed." Daniel looked back at Claire, seeing that she didn't understand. A sigh escaped his lips, and he brought a hand up, nervously scratching his head. "They, uh...there's things...about the island that you people don't know. You couldn't even...begin to understand. Time...shifts on the island." He paused for a moment, looking at her. "Of course you didn't notice it."
Daniel didn't fault these people for not knowing or noticing. They had to survive on that island; it didn't leave time to stop and check out the sights. However, Daniel had to survive the same way when he was parachuted on the island...and he had noticed. However, he had known something was wrong with the Island for a long time, and then, being faced with the actual problem? It was confusing, it was exciting...and it was terrifying. "It's not your fault you didn't notice it. You were too busy...surviving."

“The light?” Claire’s brow raised as she turned her head focusing on him, out of all the things, the last thing she would of noticed on an island when there was always something going on was the light. “Time shifts?” Claire shifted moving Aaron into her craddled arms. Everything he was saying wasn’t adding up or even making the slightest of sense. Why on earth would light on the island be any different then light anywhere else? And time? What was that all about. As Claire heard him she turned back her expression confused, should she be offended?
Nervously she laughed lightly, it was a pure giveaway that she had no idea what the hell he was going on about. “Surviving. Pft, Yeah.” It’s true.. And a lot of them made it, others however, were not so lucky…

"It's--" Daniel tried to find a way to explain it, and yet, he couldn't come up with any way. "There's..." he held a hand in front of his head as he thought. "Did you ever...feel something. Like...like the feeling that something...someone was watching you? Or listening to you?" he took in a breath, pressing a hand to his forehead. "I-I-It's like...it's like when you stand in the sun, and you're shadow, you know...it's...it's behind you? And you want to turn around and still see it there...on the island...you're shadow's still there, watching you."
Daniel wasn't sure if he was even explaining it right. He frowned, and looked towards the waves, moving from where he was sitting to the side of the ship, peering over to look at the waves against the side of the ship. "Look." he told her, motioning to the waves. "With the rate of speed we're going, they should be lapping higher. But they're not."
"You didn't notice it because you were too busy trying to stay alive. But I noticed it." And it hurt his brain to try to figure out the reason why.

The island was weird. She knew that. She even knew a few other things that she’d observed. But Daniel was getting a little to scientific for her. Claire looked on, half of her interest in what he was talking about, and the other half of her remaining off in space as she looked out onto the ocean, her thoughts were jumbling up incredibly. Did she ever feel like some one was watching her? Of course she did, but Claire thought that was simply because the Others and how they took her. Something like that didn’t fade away easily, so of course she always had that feeling…
Claire nodded slowly turning her head to look at them, “Er, yeah.” She began, unsure of herself, “Okay, wait a minute, so… Your saying our shadows were watching us?” Hopefully she wasn’t making an idiot out of herself, because right now, the babbling was making her feel like it, along with asking if their shadows were watching them. Claire cringed slightly thinking about how idiotic she sounded. “Maybe the ocean is just really calm?” She offered , knowing it wouldn’t help. “That’s really … strange.”

"I'm saying," Daniel said, in almost a frustrated sigh, "that things on the island aren't exactly...right." However, they had seen polar bears and hatches and smoke monsters; what about any of that was right?
As Claire spoke about the ocean being calm, Daniel shook his head. "No. No, see," he told her, looking to the waves. "The ocean--the ocean is always moving. There's movement ALL the time and yet as we've been out here, the movement...it's wrong."
Daniel looked at Claire. "I'm saying there's alot of things on the island that were watching you. Not just your shadow."

Claire’s lips turned in as she nodded to Daniel. She got what he was saying, but none of it made sense, but then again, he was a scientist, and Claire was merely out of high school with a measily diploma she’d almost failed to obtain. While Daniel had all these years of education under his belt, Claire couldn’t compare with her years at the Tattoo parlor, or the Fish N’ Fry.
“I understand.” Claire muttered as she stretched her back a tad only disturbing Aaron slightly. Her eyes traveled down as he raised his arms over his head , rustled for a bit then went back into a sound sleep. She only imagined the sounds of the ocean soothed him. Hell, it would of even soothed her if she wasn’t so upset, but unfortunately, there was plenty things the ocean couldn’t do, and that was one of them.
As the young Aussie lifted her head lightly her eyes opened, letting the cool ocean breeze rush against them. Eventually her eyes shut lightly as the stinging sensation set in. “So, what is your life back in the real world?” Claire questioned wondering deeply, she always liked to know about people and their lives, and really, now was no exception, plus she didn’t think that she could obtain anymore of Daniel’s science talk.

As Claire asked him what he did, Daniel's eyes looked from the sky to Claire, almost surprised that she had spoke. "What? Oh, right, uh," Daniel said, taking in a breath. "Off the...freighter. Yeah, I uh," he started, stepping back from the rail slightly. "I was a professor at Oxford. Um, Physics?" he asked her, and moved, scratching the back of his head. "I, uh, made a machine. That, um-" his eyes narrowed slightly as he tried to think of how to explain it. "I made a machine that transfered conciousness...into the future." If Claire looked at him strange, he wouldn't have cared. Eloise...he had seen what the machine could do. He knew what was possible. "You're uh, your friend Desmond--he was there. He doesn't remember that he was, but he was. He saw it work. Eloise, um...she died, though." Eloise. Poor little Eloise.
"But," Daniel said quickly, holding out his hand. "D-don't worry. Yeah. Desmond. Desmond's going to be fine. He's uh...got a bigger brain than Eloise. He can think more. Human emotions. It's what's keeping his brain from, you know...exploding."

“Impressive.” Claire smiled lightly, no wonder he was so strange. Professors were always people who had a million skeletons in their closets, or deep dark secrets. Alright, well not all of them, but thinking that really made the stiff up tight ones a lot more interesting. “Conciousness? Into the future?” Did she understand? No. Was she going to ask questions and plea for an explinations? No. “That’s amazing!” She told him quietly shifting lightly and trying to not wake Aaron up. “Desmond was there?!” Claire asked almost amazed that Daniel knew Desmond previously.
Eloise?... Who ever she … he was . Claire wasn’t going to ask. She didn’t like when people pried , and really, she didn’t like prying and upsetting people either. “I’m sorry to hear about Eloise.” As Dan went on… It left Claire speechless, so all she could do was not and look down at the sleeping child in her arms.
