Reflection. A terrible time for it now. Why couldn’t things of went differently yesterday? Why, why out of the entire time on the island did she not stop and wonder why she was trying so hard to get off. Out of all of their attempts, all the hints of rescue, why had she cared so much? Did the fact of the possible pregnancy blind her lately from thinking properly, Kate knew that pregnant women died on the island so had that been blinding her?
When Sawyer opened his mouth Kate only assumed what would come out, but really, it was the exact opposite of what she’d expect at a moment like this. “Sawyer, where would we go?” she asked almost hopelessly, the hostile tone slowly dispersing accidentally being replaced with some what of a hopeless one. “Everyone will be looking for us-“ Kate looked away down at her hands, to the cards on the floor, anything aside from him. This was crazy. Another life on the run. But this time, she wouldn’t be alone… They’d have each other… But would they? Would their next fight be worse then this?
“The entire world is going to be looking at us. We’re Oceanic Flight 815’s survivors, who are apparently dead, it’s gonna be hard to blend in James.”

Despite the hopeless tone, she seemed to take the suggestion a lot better than he had expected. And the more he thought about it, the more he felt that it was the best option. He needed this, he needed something. He needed something to fill that hollow spot left when he had strangled the real Sawyer. He needed a new goal, something to keep him occupied, something to strive for and to fight for. Even as she looked away his eyes never left her face.
“Only for a few months. Only ‘til somethin’ else comes along ta take tha attention off. People don’t have tha longest attention spans,” he replied, walking slowly toward her. He left a few feet between them still, just in case she decided to lash out again, before crouching down in front of her. They could travel the world, safety in numbers. It would give him something to focus on, something new. He could protect her. “They’ll lose interest in all of us soon enough.”

Sawyer was out of his mind , did he really think the two of them could go unnoticed? The Run away murderer and the Con-man? The difference was most people didn’t know who Sawyer was and what he’d done, he was alright. Kate’s face however was plastered everywhere, and no to mention there was probably such an applause when she was reported as one of the deceased Oceanic 815’ers. Kate couldn’t actually be seriously considering this could she?... She was.
Kate did know a few people with a long attention span however… The one man that had been on her since it all went down, the one man who wouldn’t rest until she was caught.. That one man was now dead on the island. “But..” She began, her mind wanting to find any excuse possible , yet something else was tugging at her to go for it, something that over ruled the mind in a lot of cases. Kate hadn’t moved as Sawyer came closer to her, instead her eyes merely followed his, digging deep and looking for any hidden motive he could possibly have.. But she came up blank.
“James how do you expect there to be a big enough diversion for anything, all eyes are going to be on us..” She assumed, Kate wanted to say yes so badly, but could she live on the run again? Would it be best after everything? On the island she’d adapted to a semi-normal life style if you took away living in danger and the island itself. It was nice. Yet here Sawyer stood in front of her, willing to help her.. Do it together. He cared.. Despite everything he’d told her? Kate looked down for a moment at her hands as her fingers twisted around a thread from her jeans. Slowly her eyes went back and met his, almost asking a question of their own. Was he serious? Was he ready for this? Was he doing this for her, or was she maybe just one of his newest cons?

Sawyer could hear his heart beating in his ears as he waited for her reply. It was apparently going to start with ‘but’, which was never a good sign, but it was what he expected. In spite of everything, what reason did she have to trust him? He’d conned her, he’d hurt her and he’d pushed her away. What reason did she have to believe that now he suddenly wanted to run off with her? She didn’t know his reasoning; she had no idea how broken he was.
As uncomfortable as he was feeling under her searching gaze, he didn’t break the eye contact. Not even when she finally replied. It was a lot less vehement than he expected. In fact, she actually seemed to be considering it.
“Right, all eyes are gonna be on all of us. But say some big feelin’ redneck hogs all the spotlight and makes sure all eyes are on him? Surely they wouldn’t notice some little slip of a thing like you sneakin’ off in the commotion,” he said, tilting his head slightly and grinning that deep, dimpled grin. “We just meet up later on and nobody gotta be tha wiser.”

Katherine Anne Austen, would she be able to do it? The questions were heavy on her mind as she considered it all. Three minutes ago she’d been ready to strangle him, ready to bloody kill him. Now Sawyer was so willing to help her, it almost made her guilty for yelling at him, and even slapping him. No, he did deserve that.. The two of them were simply so fucked up , and that’s probably why they worked so well together, why they meshed, and why they could hate each other one moment, and completely– She didn’t want to even think it.
Kate looked at him crouched down in front of her, only a foot away at most, the two were a complicated pair, a small smile hosted on her lips and a laugh of sarcastic disbelief followed. Sawyer was serious about this. Completely. “You serious James?” How could he flip like that so quickly? With this plan, it’d involve her leaving everyone she’d grown to know for the last three months. She’d be unable to tell any of them because they’d try and stop here… They wouldn’t understand. She needed to do this though, Kate couldn’t be damned to a cell like this… Kate wouldn’t be able to help Claire like she’d promised, She wouldn’t be able to say good bye to Sun and Jin, Hurley would be left in the dark, And then along with everyone else.. There was Jack.
Jack… Jack… Jack… Her thoughts had come to a road block. Jack had said he’d loved her… But then Jack had kissed Juliet and really, Jack seemed to only be playing with Kate’s head or something. But it went deeper then that, the two were friends, and despite everything, Kate probably wouldn’t be seeing him again… Turning back to Sawyer she nodded, “I’ve never been to LA, I don’t know how this is going to work.. or where we’re going to meet, or if I’m going to be able to get there.” They’d all stand out in a crowd, they had no money, she had no ID they had no nothing. But then again, she was resourceful. Kate wondered why her mind seemed to be producing anything it could from stop her from saying the simple ‘yes’ and running away with Sawyer. "I highly doubt they're going to let us go running around Sawyer, they're going to disect everyone's minds first..."

He was losing her. It had looked so promising when she’d actually smiled and nodded, but every word that escaped her lips was an excuse. Not that he had expected it to be easy. Hell, he hadn’t had time to expect anything; he hadn’t exactly taken the time to give this much thought before just tossing it out there.
Could they really do this? Could they lives their lives on the run with only each other to depend on? Could they last long without killing each other? And what happened if their pasts caught up with them? It would be a million times worse for her if she did run again and then got caught than if she turned herself in now. But was she really ready and willing to sentence herself to imprisonment? He would just have to make sure that they never got caught. He wouldn’t let anything happen to her.
“I know you’re scared and this is gonna take a lot of thinkin’ and plottin’, so what say we solve this in a well thought out, intelligent manner,” Sawyer replied, putting on a hint of sophisticated air. “I get tha high card, we’re goin’. You get it? Yer choice.”
Glancing around at the playing cards scattered about his feet, he eventually settled upon one and slowly flipped it over.
Four of Clubs.
“Son of a bitch...”

“I ain’t scared James.” Kate lied through her teeth. She didn’t want to admit it, but she was, even though the eye of the storm had passed, there was still a possibility of storm coming around quick, and maybe that and that along was the reason Kate felt the need to keep it to herself. “I know it is..” She did know it would take a lot of effort and plotting, but how much was the other question and how long were they going to have to keep it up?
Slowly a smile spread to her lips and she nodded, “Alright then,” she said in agreeance. What was she hoping for? A high or a low card? She couldn’t decide, each had it’s advantage and each also that the possibilities to blow up in their faces, more so for her then him, but no doubt if this happened and Kate went down, Sawyer would be pulled down with her for helping Kate. She didn’t want that, he didn’t deserve it no matter what their relationship grew or diminished to.
Avoiding the springs Kate pulled herself to the edge of the bed, anticipation building. Four of Clubs. They weren’t going- well, they could but… Kate shook her head, they could do this… She needed to do this. It was either running or what Kate only imagined to be jail, neither she wanted but at least on the run she had the freedom she needed. Leaning forward Kate picked up a card, her heart beating fast. "Three of Spades." She told him, as she turned to look at Sawyer.

Glaring at the card momentarily as if he could scare it into being higher, Sawyer rolled his eyes before turning his attention back to Kate. The chances weren’t all that good that she’d draw a lower card, but if she drew a higher one she still had the choice. Would she really choose jail over freedom, no matter how frantic or fragile that freedom was?
Dropping his card back to the floor, he almost held his breath as Kate leaned forward to pick her own. He couldn’t see it, even as she gave it a glance, but he found his smile returning even wider as she told him what it was. Lower card; they were going.
“Alright!” he exclaimed, clapping his hands together once. “Guess we best get plottin’ then, Bonnie.”

Kate took a deep breath, there was no going back now, and she wouldn’t look back. Sawyer and her were going to do this, and go through with it. No looking back, no changing their minds. This was solid. And Solid was something Kate needed, especially returning to a world that held absolutely nothing but sadness and betrayal for her. With good intentions she had set free into the world, but it had all backfired on her, but now, Kate would eventually change her luck now that she had some one who seemingly had her back, and in all honesty, she had his.
Kate moved to the floor with a smile as Sawyer grinned, truth be told he seemed… excited? About all of this. “Alright then, first things first, What’s your big idea for a distraction then, James?” she questioned, half with a smart ass grin, and the other half with a look of questioning and deep hope.

As Kate moved to sit near him on the floor, Sawyer’s eyes flickered to the card she had left face down on the bed. What were the chances, honestly, that she had drawn a card lower than a four? If aces were high, that left only eight cards out of fifty-two that were lower, and even if aces were low, that was still only twelve. So either he had all the luck in that hand that he’d been lacking for months, or it was all a bluff and she really wanted to go with him.
“Oh, you’re gonna love it,” he said, meeting her eyes with a devilish glint in his own. “But I think there’s another thing that’s first.”
Placing one hand on her knee, Sawyer’s eyes drifted partway closed as he leaned in closer... before making a grab for the abandoned playing card.

“Am I now?” Kate questioned, her brow raised as she watched on, She knew the look in his eyes. How many times before had she seen that look? Either his idea was brilliant, or they’d both be caught in mere minutes of getting off the freighter, if they made it that far. “What do you mean?” she quipped watching him as his hand went to her knee and he leaned closer.
Kate’s face had turned to a look of concern- Was this happening again? Looking away quickly she was relieved he’d then reached behind her and grabbed the playing card. “D’you think I’m playing dirty? It’s the three of spades.” Kate told him humorously. “Don’t flatter yourself.” She smirked lightly slowly beginning to gather the other playing cards.

Sawyer was actually disappointed that Kate didn’t try to stop him from grabbing the card. Not only did that mean that she wasn’t lying, but he could have done with a bit of rough and tumble, and she was definitely fun to wrestle with.
Three of spades. Damn. The only thing that would have made the lunge worth it now was if he hadn’t caught the way she’d turned away when she had thought the ploy was real. Maybe tonight wasn’t his lucky night, or he sure as hell wouldn’t be getting lucky, anyway.
“Wouldn’t be tha first time,” Sawyer replied, tossing the card into the pile she was making. Although, usually, when she played dirty it wasn’t with the best results. Sitting himself back on the floor, he flicked his hair back out of his eyes. “So, I figure yer best bet is ta follow close behind Hurley when we get off of this hunk’a junk. I’ll take care of tha rest.”

So the obvious had been stated. It would be best for her to escape by hiding behind Hurley until she could make a run for it. She hated thinking it, but due to his incredibly large size, it worked out well. But then again, how would Kate explain what the hell she was doing stuck behind Hurley. He’d be bound to get suspicious? Wouldn’t he? “I think Hurley would notice if I’m stuck behind him, and constantly following him.” Kate objected, her brow raised slightly.
“He’s going to begin to ask questions. And then what?” It was obvious Sawyer had no further plan, but they couldn’t really have a solid plan given the questionable circumstances of their arrival. Kate titled her head back resting it on the unusually springy mattress, her eyes glancing over ever so slightly at Sawyer almost expecting him to do something.

Sawyer had been joking, of course. Alright, so at least half joking anyway. She couldn’t obviously be hiding anymore than she could obviously run away, and he knew that if he was going to try to slip away unnoticed, he’d keep close to the biggest guy he could find. Too bad ol’ Hugo was a loud mouth.
The cards forgotten, Sawyer shifted his position on the floor so that he was sitting beside Kate. Mimicking her, he leaned his head back on the mattress before rolling it to the side so he could watch her easier.
“Tell him you’re just tryin’ ta block the wind,” he joked, grinning broadly. He knew they had to seriously plot, but they had time. He wanted to set her at ease first. Her... as well as himself.
