Was there something she missed about the Island? Oh, if he could tell her half of what had happened on the Island, maybe then she would understand. But of course, he couldn't tell her. He couldn't tell her waht had happened, because she wouldn't believe him, would she? He'd probably be placed in a room next to Claire.
Her hands on his cheeks made him frown, looking down towards the floor of the elevator before she made him look at her. He brought a hand up, pressing it against her hair. "It's--" he started, narrowing his eyes slightly as he tried to think of how to explain it. "When I was on the Island, I--I felt...important. Like I was needed. It's like--" He tilted his head slightly as he tried to think. "It's like when I came into your hospital room to tell you the surgery hadn't gone well. I felt sick. I felt horrible inside...and then something happened and I suddenlly felt overjoyed. I felt that my life meant something. Then something happened and I just suddenlly feel so lost."
Suddenlly, he missed her. As he found himself stepping closer to her, it hit him. He missed the way that he used to laugh when he was around her. But he wasn't sure why she had come...they had been divorced...didn't she hate him? "Why are you here, Sarah?"

"Of course you're important Jack." She stated. "You're one of the best damn surgeons in LA, and if wasn't for you, I'd either be dead or paralyzed for the rest of my life." She continued.
"And don't worry. If you're lost - you'll find your way back. I promise."
She dropped her hands when he asked her what she was really doing there and sighed, running a hand through her hair and stepping out the door of the elevator, looking back to make sure Jack was coming.
"Jack," She began, in almost a pained voice, as if it hurt her to tell him this now after all the stuff he was going through at the moment. Sarah feared it just might make him worse.
"I'm pregnant."

"I'm pregnant."
A breath escaped his lips, almost as if he had been socked in the chest, and as she walked out of the elevator, Jack followed her, shellshocked. He remembered the time when she had told him that she had taken a pregnancy test. How it had been negative and how she hadn't wanted to talk about it. He remembered how shitty he had felt afterwards whens he had walked away.
But now, she was pregnant. Taking a breath in, he nodded slightly. "Congratulations. I'm sure you're...boyfriend? I'm sure he's very happy."
He hadn't even thought about the time before he had left to Australia. The weak moment they had both had wondered if they had both regretted. "I'm happy for you, Sarah. I am."

Sarah let out the breath she had been holding - she had fully expected Jack to blow up in her face, or tell her to get teh hell out. Yet, he hadn't. That made her feel the slightest bit better.
"Thank you." She whispered, staring at the ground as they continued to walk to his office. "But I'm still here to see you. It's just that little fact was something I thought I should tell you or you'd like to know."
"So do you want me to just get out now? Or are we still going up to your office?"

"We're not married anymore, Sarah. Whether or not you're pregnant...well, that's your decision." Jack told her as he moved to his office, sliding his keycard to open the door. "I've got a new mindset since crashing ont hat Island. A very messed up mindset, of course, but a different mindset nonetheless. I don't want us fighting anymore. We're not married anymore, but I still do care for you. I always will."
He entered, moving to sit down in his chair. The yellow envelope made him frown, and he moved to lookat Sarah instead. "So how far along are you?"

"I know."
When he mentioned his new mind set, she smirked. "At least it's better than your previous mind-set before the island." Sarah said quietly, following him into his office. "At least you aren't drinking again."
"And I care for you Jack - I always have and I always will, and that's never going to change, no matter who we decide to marry or who we're friends with or whatever else happens to either of us." Sarah continued, quietly sitting down in one of the other chairs in his office, folding her arms over her chest lightly.
Her gaze flickered to the yellow envelope for a moment before she answered. "About six weeks."

"At least you aren't drinking again..."
Jack clenched his jaw slightly as she spoke about him drinking. He muttered something, not really an acceptance or a denial, and looked over at her as she spoke about caring for him. He felt h imself nod slightly, looking down at the envelope once more. "I know." he told her, and then looked up as she said six weeks. "You know, my roomate at med school--Steve Ruhoy. You met him, he was with his wife at the wedding. He's one of the best OBGYN's in the western coast, moreso with high risk pregnancies. I'll give him a call. With, uh...with the surgery and everything, even though years have passed since the accident, I still think that you should see him through the pregnancy."
He laid his hand on the envelope, not wanting to open it. "I can call him later today if you want."

Her elbow rested on the arm of the chair as she held her chin in her hand. She listened to him speak for a moment, a small smile spreading across her lips.
"I think I know who you're talking about - you introduced me once." Sarah said. "And that would be lovely Jack, thank you. But are you sure I'm still at risk?" She asked, slightly concerned. She hadn't actually thought about that - the accident seemed so far behind her, that she had almost completely forgotten it.
"But yeah, calling him would be a good idea...."

"Saying I build your lower spine back up from basically scratch wouldn't exactly be overstating things." Jack told Sarah honestly as he looked at her. "Any trauma, whether it be walking, swimming, hiking, having a child, any trauma is going to exacerbate your condition, possibly even worsen it."
He mnoved, picking up the phone. "I'll call him now, see if he can get you in some time this week." he said as he dialed, and then waited. "Yes, this is Doctor Jack Shephard, I need to speak with Dr. Ruhoy, please? Thank you." He glanced at the envelope agian, before looking at his ex-wife. "Hey, Steve, it's Jack. Hey, yeah, I've got a favour to ask you. Sarah's pregnant." He frowned slightly. "No, no, we're, uh...we're not. It's not mine. No, no, it's fine, Steve, just can you get her in? With the accident and all, I just want to make sure that she'll be able to carry to term and her spine be able to support the trauma. Okay. Yeah. Okay, great. Yeah, I'll tell her. Thanks, man. Bye."
Jack hung up the phone and nodded. "Alright, give him a call when you're ready to go, and he'll fit you in." He said, writing the number down on one of his buisness cards. "I uh, I had gone over it with him once when, um...whne we were married, and he said he was pretty sure you'd be fine, but I do want you to double check."

"Oh." was all she could say before he picked up the phone.
She winced slightly - she knew that Steve would assume it to be Jack's. Sarah almost did wish it was Jack's, because they were never able to have kids. Maybe that's what would have held their marriage together - a child. Or something like that. Or it could have been the thing to tear them apart even farther. Sarah didn't know.
"I'll try to call him sometime later this week then." Sarah said quietly, taking the card and stuffing it in her jean's pocket for later. "Thank you Jack."
Her gaze flickered to the envelope. It seemed to be one of teh issues of Jack's stress at the moment.
"Are you going to open it?"

He didn't want to read it. Even though he had said that he had wanted to, of course, he hadn't wanted to read it because it would make it true. He looked down, slowly opening the envelope. Of course, Aaron's was on top. Pursing his lips, his eyes scanned the paper.
"It is the opinion of the medical examiner that the death of patient Aaron Littleton, a.k.a Baby Boy Doe can be considered homicide. Subdural hematoma was found along with many cerebral contusions, with retinal hemorrhage present in the patients eyes and significant cranial-facial bone damage. Fracture of the second and third rib, along with massive contusions along the chest and facial area are present."
Jack sighed out hard, looking down at his desk for a moment before looking over at Sarah. "Shaken-Baby Syndrome."
He flipped the papers, looking for Sawyer's autopsy report. He scoffed sadly, shaking his head almost angrily. "Suicide. This--this doesn't make sense." Of course, how could he say different? He hadn't known Sawyer his entire life; only the span of three months. How could you know someone's entire life int hree months?

Sarah shut her eyes, hardly able to stand what she was hearing. That sounded awful - and on a tiny child too? That made it all worse. She regretted asking Jack to open it.
"That's horrible." She whispered, her hand over her open mouth. "You knew that Sawyer man - why would he do such a thing? And to kill himself?"
It just seemed horrible.
