Sighing, Charlotte ran a hand through her hair. Having finally gotten a shower and changed into clean clothes, she still felt as though several layers of dirt covered her body. But she didn't care, not anymore. She was just glad to be back on dry land and off the Freighter and it's cramped spaces. It felt good to stretch her legs again. Running a hand through her loose curls, the redhead turned right, headed into the park. It was quiet here, and quiet was what she needed after having listened to the unappealing sounds of Los Angeles all night as she attempted to get a good nights sleep.
She followed a path, passing several families on vacation, people on their way to work, and people on break. She wished she were at least one of them, instead of who she was at the moment. She would give anything to be someone else for a bit. Charlotte sighed again, stopping to sit on the edge of a bench, across from the large fountain that she guessed was the center of the park. Setting her purse beside her, she pulled her hair into a ponytail and away from her face. She missed England, and Oxford, and would have picked anywhere but here to be. She wanted to get back to her job and begin traveling again.
It was considerably warm, so Charlotte was dressed in the only pair of kaki shorts and tank top she had brought on the Freighter with her, the ones she had gotten dry cleaned just so she could wear them today. Drumming her fingers as an output of energy, she was trying to relieve the stress from her body. She had drank one too many cups of coffee from Starbucks that morning, thinking it would help. Wrong. Now she was just jittery as hell. And she still was stressed out. With her lack of sleep, it was becoming increasing worse, and she felt as though she wanted to pass out. But she wouldn't, and instead she would remain awake and continue her day. She alwasy did. Yawning, Charlotte frowned.
"God I need sleep."

It had been the closest thing to Oxford.
Serenity Park. The name was peaceful. Located in Los Angeles, it was hard to find some peice in the busy and bustling town, and yet, as Daniel walked down the path the park had laid as a walking trail. His eyes took in every inch of the park, the people walking past him (to which Daniel had gotten some stares) to the birds in the trees to the way the wind blew through the leaves.
However, as Daniel looked up, the clouds were beginning to grow. It was going to rain. However, Daniel looked ahead on the trail to see Charlotte, and he clenched his journal tighter in his head. "H-Hey! Charlotte!" he called, catch up with her. "Hey, yeah. Couldn't sleep?" he asked her, and sighed out, shaking his head. "I couldn't sleep. There was, um, someone next door to my hotel room. They, uh--t-they kept playing music. I could hear it through the walls, it kept me up; so how are you? You okay?"

Charlotte looked up at the sound of her name, and it took her a moment to realize it was Daniel calling. She smiled. "Hey Dan." She greeted, pushing her hair behind her ear as she looked up at him.
"No, because my neighbors decided to have a screaming match last night. I'm surprised you didn't hear it, but that music probably blocked it out." She muttered. "That and my stress level is slowly increasing, again." The redhead added, her lips quirking into a smile. "I'm fine. Tired, stressed, in need of more caffiene, but I'm great." She said, absentmindedly picking at the peeling paint of the bench.
Patting the bench beside her, she scooted over some to allow him room to sit down next to her. She noticed he was clutching his journal again and smirked. She knew he hardly left to go anywhere without it. Folding her arms across her chest, she looked back at him. "What about you? How have you been? I haven't exactly seen you since we got off the Freighter, even if we are staying in the same hotel."

Daniel clutched his journal and sat down next to Charlotte. Tired. Stressed. Those were things that Daniel was and more; he watched his back like he had never before, for the end that Daniel hoped never came.
"Yeah, I uh," he shrugged slightly. "I've been working. I-I couldn't sleep, so I've just been--" he opened his journal, moving to grab a pen. "There's still something wrong. I can feel it. I just can't put my finger on it." he tapped the pen on the journal for a moment, before looking at the people who were passing. "I saw the papers this morning. They're already wondering." Daniel looked down at his journal nervously before looking over at her.

Charlotte glanced at his journal. "Somethings always wrong in this crazy place called the World. There's nothing we can change about that." She muttered, looking at the sky for a brief moment. She turned back to Daniel, crossing her arms. "Dan, you're going to run yourself ragged over it, and it's beginning to worry me a bit."
She snorted. "Of course they're wondering. We brought back people that were supposed to be dead." She said. "But I didn't see the paper. Did they mention any of our names?" Charlotte asked.

Charlotte spoke of running himself ragged, and he glanced over at her from where he was looking at his journal. He flipped through the pages, shaking his head. "Nahh," he said slowly, with a slight laugh as he slowly started to shake his head. "N-No, y'see--I didn't sleep. I don't--I didn't sleep much at Oxford. I-I got um...probably four hours of sleep a night if--if that, so...yeah. Coffee. I just need Coffee."
When she said they couldn't change the world, Daniel broke out into a smile. "No! No, you're wrong! We *can*. We--we *can* change the world, it's--it's just...finding a way to do it. Finding the...the ability to do it." Desmond...Daniel wasn't sure about Desmond. He hadn't talked to the man since they had docked. He hadn't taken any tests, hadn't asked Desmond any questions...he reminded himself to do that. He needed to. He needed to research what had happened to Desmond before it was too late. Before Desmond ended up like Eloise. Or even worse...Daniel ended up like Eloise. Perhaps that's why he was afraid to go to sleep. He was afraid he'd somehow leave, like Desmond did. Like Eloise. He didn't want to leave.

Charlotte chuckled. "Coffee is my lifeline to reality. We all need coffee." She grinned, brushing hair from her face as she tapped her fingers lightly against the bench. Looking over at him, she listened with interest as he spoke again about finding a way to change the world. She sighed slightly.
"That's the reason why. The ability to change the world is so hard to get, so hard to come by that no one wants to try and get it. No one wants to change it." She said, looking a Dan. "The only way these people get on with their happy little lives is because they don't know, don't understand what's out there. Places and things like the island and it's smoke monster." She continued, placing both hands in her lap. She watched him for a moment. He seemed to be absorbed in thought, thinking about something else. She frowned slightly, placing a hand on his arm. "Are you okay Daniel?"

Charlotte's arm moved to Daniel's arm, and he looked sharply to her, a slight frown on his face. "It's--It's nothing, I, uh--" he started, and then felt himself laugh slightly, though it wasn't happy. It was worried. The laugh disapeared, and Daniel's face twisted into a frown. "I, uh," he started slowly, narrowing his eyes slightly. "I don't--I'm just...not quiet sure if what happened to Desmond isn't going to happen to me..."
Daniel wasn't sure how to explain his worries. It had sprung on Ddesmond quickly, and he wasn't sure if it would happen quickly to him, or if it would take a long time, or if it would even happen at all. The little time Daniel slept he dreamed about places that he wasn't supposed to be in, and it worried him. Would it break through to the concious world? Could he deal with that?
"I can't figure it out...if it happened, it should have happened on the Island, and--and my memory's--it's came back for the most part after we got off the island..." he looked over at Charlotte. "I don't know..."

Charlotte looked confused for a moment as she drew her arm back, trying to remember what he had explained to her, about what had happened to Desmond. Something about the constants and time traveling in his mind. She frowned slightly.
It had worried her slightly, because she had seen Mikowski go through parts of it before she had left the Freighter on the helicopter. He had gone insane, and forced the Doc to give him some sort of medicine that was supposed to help him,w hen all it really did was put him to sleep. She didn't want it to happen to Dan, especially if he was now starting to regain his memory.
"It can't happen to you." She said after a moment. "I mean, it shouldn't. We're off the island, far away from it in fact. It shouldn't effect you, or anyone anymore." Charlotte said. "And if you're getting your memory back, isn't that a good thing?" She asked, glancing back over at him.

The thoughts of Mikowski going insane, the way he wanted just to simply sleep, the images haunted Daniel and he had to shut his eyes for a moment and try to block them out. It can't happen to you, Daniel.
"It's--It's the one thing I can't figure out." he told Charlotte. "I've been exposed more than Desmond has. Thousands of times more than he has and yet it happened to him first. He had only had it happen to him once...unless..." Unless Desmond had visited him another time and Daniel hadn't remembered. This was the only part that worried him. The not knowing. Daniel hadn't remembered Desmond when he had first saw him, and even then, it took some time for him to fully remember where they had met, how they had met, what had been said...
"It should have happened on the island, and yet...it hasn't. It happened on the freighter, but the freighter was...was far." The effects from the Island, Daniel wasn't sure how far it had spread. If he had the ability to, Daniel would have wanted to study the Island. Study the lights and study the magnetic properties...
"I don't know."

Charlotte frowned. She had to admit it was hard to explain, even if one was well learned in the area of physics like Daniel. "Maybe his mind is more sensitive. I mean, he had those flashes of the future or whatever. You don't get those, do you?" She questioned, looking at him with a puzzled look. She thought Dan didn't get them, but she could be wrong. She wasn't honestly sure of a lot of things anymore. "Maybe the island chose him and the others to make crazy or something. That island was bloody crazy and freaky, so who knows what could cause things to happen like that." She offered, not really knowing half of what she was saying. Sometimes she thought she had gone crazy, and wondered if she was going to go insane like Regina had done. It worried her, but obviously not as much as Dan worried about going insane himself.
"I don't know either Dan. But I can tell you that if it starts to happen to you, I'll try to find a way and fix it. We can't lose you to that island too."

Daniel wasn't sure if he got the same flashes that Desmond had. He had the dreams, being in places where he shouldn't have, but Daniel wondered if they were just dreams andnothing more. "I don't know if I do or not. I--I have dreams, but--" he shook his head. "I wake from them easily."
Daniel wasn't sure about anything anymore. Just the simple fact that they were back home with the Survivors of Oceanic 815 when they had been told over and over and over again that there WERE no survivors of 815. Charlotte spoke if not knowing, however, when she said that she would fight for him, Daniel felt a smile hitch at his lips. His hand moved slowly to lay across herrs. "Once it happens, once the mind's gone it...it'd be hard to get back, I--" he shook his head, however, he looked over at Charlotte with a slight smile. "But it's a nice thought to know you'll be there."

Charlotte stared at the fountain across from them in the center of the park, watching the water fall into the pool below it as she listened to what Dan said. She was thinking, trying to figure it all out, again. She chewed on her lower lip subconsciously.
"Well if I left now, I wouldn't be much of a friend would I now?" She said with a smile, jerking herself from her thoughts and looking back over at him. Feeling his hand over hers, she gently curled her fingers around his. "And besides, I just have to find your Constant, right? I mean, I think I have the general idea of it all...." She continued with a sigh, brushing hair from her face. "And that Desmond would be your constant since he exists both here and there." She added.

Daniel felt himself smile slightly, a relieved smile as he looked at her hand curling around his. She spoke of finding constants and getting general ideas, and Daniel nodded. "The very basic general idea of it, yeah, that's it." However, it was much more complicated than that. But Charlotte was sincere and kind about the entire thing, so Daniel wasn't going to explain more, about the variables and times and things that would only confuse her more.
His stomach growled slightly, and he realised that he hadn't eaten since...well, since the freighter. He looked up at the sky, wondering whether it was breakfast or lunch or even brunch. Any food, real food that wasn't in some sort of can or box sounded devine. He wondered if Charlotte was as hungry as he was. "Charlotte, um...you know, it's been...a real long time since I've eaten and...and I was just wondering if you wanted to go...with me? To eat."

Charlotte knew she probably wouldn't be able to find a solution, because not even Dan had found one yet, and he was a lot smarter than her. She knew she didn't know the variables, equations, and misc. other things that it included, and probably wouldn't understand it if she saw it. But she could try, and if it didn't work, she'd try again until she figured out something else to do. She couldn't help but sigh, but gave Dan a small smile.
Pondering for a moment, she nodded. She was beginning to get a bit hungry herself. "Sure. It is about lunchtime anyway." She grinned. "I passed this place around the corner from here on my way here, if you want to go there." She offered. "Unless you had a place in mind, or you wanted to get room service back at the hotel." She added. "It doesn't matter to me."
