"And of course you did nothing to deserve it. Just like everybody does." He continued to smirk at her little self-delusion, poor Charlotte... all alone in this world. It almost made him feel sick. And then she had to audacity to keep putting off going to the island to sort out her issues or something. You'd think the best thing to do would be just to get on with your life. Her parents hate her... well at least they're alive, he thought snorting to himself.

"My sisters were always the favorites Miles. My parents pretty much ignored me when I was born. One became a Lawyer, the other a Doctor, and I became an anthropologist." She said as she crossed her arms again. She didn't care honestly what her parents thought of her. She didn't care about much of anything anymore.
"I'm the black sheep in my family, but I don't care."

Miles let out an elaborate yawn. Charlotte's little problems... did she think he was some kind of listening post or something?
Some sort of Dan replacement to tell her everything was alright?
Miles hated being a confided in unless it was something useful that he could use against a person, and Charlotte's little sob story was just plain boring.
"Well, as interesting as this is. I think I'm going into the next room to shoot a few balls." He grabbed his beer from the bar and started to amble to the ajoining bar room, "coming?"

Charlotte let out a sigh, hesitating slightly. She hadn't played pool in God knew how long. Brushing hair from her face, she got to her feet. Weaving her way through the people, she followed Miles to the second room with the pool tables.
"I haven't played in a while, so I probably suck." She muttered to him.

He walked over to the tables and picked out a cue. Pool, bars and beer were remnants of the shady dealings he did in places like this with men caught on the wrong side of the law.
"Good" he said, regarding her admittance that she probably sucks. "It'll be a short game then."
He was good at pool, but then again, Charlotte was a liar so he didn't believe her that she sucked. She probably just said there and pulled this incredible amount of luck out of nowhere, knowing her.
"We betting?"

Charlotte rolled her eyes at Miles and grabbed a cue from the rack off the wall. She grabbed one of the square chalk pieces and rubbed the end of the cue with it as Miles spoke again.
"It doesn't matter to me. We can bet anything you want or we can just play." She shrugged, glancing at him and she leaned on the que slightly. "And do you want to break or shall I?"

Well... she isn't a novice. He thought as she asked to break. He had a feeling if he actually bet that he'd probably get beaten badly, but Miles was too cocky not to put anything on it.
"I win and you go to the island?" He asked. He had to try, even though he was sure she wouldn't buy it. He chalked up his own cue and set up the balls, indicating for her to take the position behind the white ball and start.

Charlotte snorted. Of course he would bet on that. SHe sighed, debating it.
"Alright. But I win and you leave me be and don't mention that place to me ever again." She replied, glancing at him as she aimed her cue at the ball, preparing to break.
"So, do you accept that bet before I break?"

((this is going to be a seriously interesting plot line. high stakes huh? I'm on the edge of my seat to see what happens!))
He put out his hand to shake hers. Of course he would accept. They were good terms. If he won, he'd be going to the island sooner rather than later and if he lost he would never have an excuse to see Charlotte's face again. Sounded good enough to him.
"Your break" he told her and moved over to the other side of the table, pursing his lips together and watching her movement under heavy lids. He ran his thumb over the end of the cue and didn't take his eyes off of her the entire time, anticipating her movements to be better than she'd let on. But it was OK, he was no novice himself. And if she wanted a tough game with tough stakes... it was hers.

Charlotte briefly shook his hand before aiming her cue at the white ball. She glanced at Miles before shooting, sending the ball flying into the others, breaking them apart. They spread out all over the table, but none of them slipped into the pockets. She frowned slightly, but shrugged and stepped back. She wasn't going to let the high stakes get to her. If she lost... well, she'd figure that out when it happened.
"Your go then."

Miles didn't move, he just kept looking over the table. He took in all the balls that he could pocket easily. There were two. The purple four in the left corner and the yellow nine near the center. He decided to go for the purple ball. He leaned his body weight over the table, set up his shot, squinting to get his position right and made his shot, sending it in.
Miles smirked. "Guess you're stripes then." He tried to go for the yellow ball that was now not in the desired position and missed. Miles shrugged and indicated for her to take the table.

{I can't exactly remember which numbers are striped and which are solid, because I haven't played in a while, so correct me if I get one of the numbers wrong}
"Yay me." She muttered, twirling her finger sarcastically in the air as she studied the table, trying to find the easiest shot first. Smirking, she went to the opposite side of the table to the striped 11, sending it into the side pocket across from her.
Taking another shot, she aimed for the 12, sending it into the corner pocket. Charlotte looked up at Miles. "Guess I'm not as bad as I thought." She shrugged, missing her next shot.

((11 and 12 are striped. Any about 9 are striped balls))
Miles gave an annoyed snort as she made two balls at once. Liar. He told himself.
Some of the times he could tolerate Charlotte, even pretend for a second that he cared. But times like this it was nothing but pure hatred for the woman. Liar.
He shrugged again and moved around the table, taking in every possible shot. Number 11, 12 and 4 were off the table. He saw the blue two which was teetering after her shot and moved around the table to get at it, placing his hand on it and readying himself yet again.
One shot and he got it in. He smirked. Take that Charlotte. Except the white cue ball that he had shot it in with was dangerously close to going in itself. He looked at it almost pleadingly...

Charlotte leaned against her cue stick again, watching as Miles made his shot, her eyes carefully focused on the white ball as it teetered dangerously close to the pocket. She willed it to fall in as she glanced back at Miles, who seemed to be staring at it as well, almost pleading. Her lips twitched slightly as she watched the ball grow closer to the edge. Briefly considering 'accidentally' hitting the table so it would fall in, she sighed.
"Damn ball." She muttered as it seemed it was going to stay in place, meaning Miles would continue his turn.

The orange five was the next to catch his eye. He rubbed the cue between his hands as he thought about the best angle to approach at and walked around the table, taking his time.
He lined up the shot, took it and the orange ball went in, although not as easy as the shot for the two ball was. There were now five balls off the table of the fifteen of them. He found another solid ball but unfortunatly balls 13 and 9 were blocking it. He tried the shot anyway and set up a nice shot for Charlotte with ball 13, the three ball moving out of it's way.
