Miles snorted. Smoke monsters and polar bears? Sure, that stuff was interesting but she wasn't that into her work that she wanted to continue the science mission by herself. Charlotte had personal reasons and smoke monsters and polar bears just weren't personal enough. "Whatever you say" he replied biting his tongue.
He saw her take a drink of water. She's being cautious after last time, he mused. "Good idea." He commented. "Don't want you getting drunk and calling me 'Milesy' again." He winced at the thought elaboratly, and then chuckled.

Charlotte rolled her eyes and leaned back in her chair, attempting to get her tense muscles to relax. Sighing again, she stared at the wall behind the bar. She was tired as hell and wanted nothing more than to sleep for several days.
Making a face when he mentioned her getting drunk, she took another drink of water. "Don't even mention that."

Miles eyed her carefully as she seemed to stare off into space again, just like when she was tracing patterns on the bar moments earlier. His eyebrow shot up again. She was out of it and Miles didn't think she'd been sleeping. "Don't tell me that Dan is getting to you with all that time travel stuff" he groaned, assuming that was keeping her up at night.
"Nothing happened to us last time we went to the island and nothing is going to happen to us when we go back." He lifted her empty glass to the bartender to get her a new drink. "And if you stop drinking water maybe you'll get a good night's sleep tonight."

"No, it's nothing like that." She replied, briefly glancing at him before her gaze returned to the wall behind the bar, lined with several different bottles, all different types of alcohol.
"You didn't stick around to listen to Dan when he had another flash did you?" Charlotte questioned softly. She knew he hadn't. "Let's just say it's something that I don't want to end up coming true."

"Dan has always been crazy" Miles said blankly, "we know that... so we can't be sure his flashes are even island related." That was true enough. Dan may have been a great scientist but he wasn't.... all there... at times.
"Frankly, I'm going to take my chances" Miles told her. It was worth the risk. Some things were. And if he ended up like Dan did, he'd be better at dealing with it than Dan was. Miles was a man of action, not thought and in his experience that got him a hell of a lot further in the world than it did for people like Dan.

"He's not crazy. He's smarter than what you give him credit for." She stated, not looking at him. "And the flashes are definatley island related." She added, resting her chin in her hand as she stifled a yawn.
She hesitated slightly as she glanced sideways at Miles. After a moment, she turned to face him fully.
"If we go back to that island Miles, we aren't coming back this time."

Miles knew the heaviness of her last statement. "And what exactly have we even come back for this time?" He asked her. She had nothing. He had nothing. Why didn't they just stay in the first place?
"Face it Charlotte. This isn't the place we're meant to be." He sighed and took a long drink this time and ordered himself another one. He didn't care that he was drinking chick drinks. It's not like Charlotte cared either. He didn't know what he meant exactly by that last statement except that they needed to get back, or their lives would become as meaningless as Dan's with his little equations.

Charlotte remained silent. She knew he was right, but she still wouldn't bring herself to admit it out loud. She focused on the bar again, her hands in her lap and fingers entwined as her thoughts swirled.
"The island's going to move."

"What?" Miles snapped his head back around so fast that it almost made a cracking sound. She couldn't have said what he thought he just heard her say. "What do you mean 'the island's gonna move'?"
He shook his head and gave the bartender and indifferent look as a new drink was set in front of him, taking it in his hand and swirling it around.

"I meant just what I said Miles. It's going to move when we go back, and we aren't going to be able to get back." She said slowly. "When I was in the park with Dan, he told me one of his flashes. I was saying goodbye to him, that I was staying on the island while he left. Then there was a bright light, and I, along with everyone else on the island including the island itself was gone." She explained to him.
"I'm not lying."

"And how do you know this isn't just one of little Dan's delusions?" He asked, intrigued. If this was the truth, then maybe it put a rush on them getting back even sooner than he had thought. He needed to find Ben for that and he needed to find Ben fast. He needed a way to get back.
"Dan needs professional help. Can we even take the risk that he knows what he's talking about?'

"He knows what he's talking about." She stated, crossing her arms again. Charlotte looked at Miles, leaning her head to one side. "I belive him, and if you don't, that's your problem." She shrugged and took another sip of water.
"And if you don't stop saying he needs professional help, I'm going to hurt you. You need professional help Miles."

Miles smirked. "Maybe so. But that doesn't mean that he doesn't." Miles shrugged off her statement. She had an irrational habit of protecting Faraday like a little baby or a puppy dog. People like her stopped him from getting better. What Daniel really needed was someone to force him into action. To force him to stop retreating into his own little world for once.
"He has professional help doesn't he?" Miles mused out loud. "A nurse." Miles took another long sip of his drink. "I just want to be sure that you're not just believing him because you feel sorry for him."

"I believe him because he's never been wrong before." Charlotte stated firmly, not looking at him again. Her head was resting in her hand again as she leaned against the bar, nursing what was left of her water. Dan was right ; she knew it - she just had to get Miles to accept it. Her lips twitching, she glanced at him.

"As far as I'm concerned that's the worst reason to believe someone." It didn't matter about his track record. It mattered about probability. And the probability was that he was going to be wrong one of these days.
"Say the island moves" Miles stated, starting to accept the small possibility that Dan could be right, "then how long do we have?"
It was probably better to get back there sooner rather than later anyhow. That was what would ensure that nothing would happen that would stop them.
