Lea couldn't deny it, it was good to be back in the land of living. Well not that they weren't living on the Island, but just being back to civilisation, that was the proper word for what she was trying to say. Walking down Rodeo Drive, was her idea of heaven. Her dad had promised to meet her here so they could go shopping together. He wanted to spoil his daughter, the daughter he hadn't seen for all those days she was stranded on that Island.
Her heart was filled with joy and her feet had a spring in their step as she walked down Rodeo Drive looking from one window to another. Her dad had promised to meet her in the quaint little cafe he always went to for his lunch when he was taking time out from his busy day at the bank.
Dressed in her best black satin top and white trousers, she felt at ease to meet her dad after so long. Her coat was tied tight around her waist, the belt flapping in the cool breeze. She reached the cafe and opened the door quietly. There weren't any other customers there. She walked to the back of the cafe and took a seat in the booth there. She nervously looked at her watch, it was almost time for her dad to arrive.
Too busy looking at her watch, she hadn't noticed the waitress come toward her. So when she spoke Leandra was startled. "Are you ready to order Miss?" the voice said. Leandra jumped, and looked up at the girl with a smile.
"Sorry I was miles away, yes I'll have a coffee please, I'm waiting for someone to arrive before I order anything else" she explained to the girl.
"Very well madam" the waitress said. A few minutes later the waitress was back with the coffee and some cream and sugar. Leandra took a sip, and looked again at her watch. She was beginning to wonder what was keeping her dad. He was never late, not even work made him late for anything. If he was going to be late at all, he would let her know. She just knew it. Every time the door opened, she looked up in anticipation, only to find out it wasn't him.
Where is he? she wondered to herself, before taking another sip of her coffee.

Charlotte sighed and replaced her cell phone in her pocket, wanting nothing but to pitch it into the road and let some car run over the bloody thing. People were so incapable of doing the things she needed done. She couldn't help but think of the old say: 'if you want something done you've got to do it yourself'.
But at the moment, she needed coffee, and needed it now. Her stress level was abnormally low, but she had the craving for the warm drink at the moment. Thinking for a brief moment as she turned down the sidewalk onto Rodeo Drive, she figured the small cafe just down the block would be the best and closest place.
Brushing strands of straightened red hair off her shoulders, she tugged at the sleeves of her t-shirt. Her mind was a jumbled mess at the moment. Thoughts of the Island, of constants, and other things swirled around her head. She had promised Dan she wouldn't go back, and she was going to keep her promise. Though she wanted to know more about the island. Now she was just going to have to find out things from Widmore or Linus or somebody.
Entering the coffee shop, she sat at one of the tables in the center of the room instead of one of the booths, crossing her arms with a sigh.
"Can I get you something to drink ma'am?" A waitress said, coming over with a notepad.
"A cup of coffee please. Black." She said, her accent thicker since she was so tired. She hadn't been sleeping well for the past two nights, resorting to taking sleeping pills for it. As the waitress went off to fill her order, Charlotte absentmindedly traced invisible patterns on the small wooden table, bored.

Lea was now beginning to get very worried about where her father was. It was so very unlike him to be late, at least not without phoning her and letting her know why he would be late if he was going to be late. She just hoped nothing had happened to him. She could never cope without her father. Her father was the one constant in her life. She would love to say she was close to her mother, but truth is, ever since she made her help out with the brothel, Leandra despised her mother.
Just then, her mobile phone rang, Leandra almost jumped at the sound of it. She quickly answered the phone, in the hope it would be her father.
"Hello" she said in nervous tones. "Lea, darling, I'm so very sorry I'm late, but I've had a little accident at the office" her father's soft voice came over the phone. "What? What's happened?" Leandra said, panic in her voice. "What kind of accident?" she asked getting a little delirious. "Ssh, it's alright darling, I just tripped over my own feet and I've sprained my ankle" he explained. "I'll come and see you, where are you?" she demanded. "I'm at the local surgery, but no need to come and see me, but we'll have to re-arrange our shopping trip, I hope you don't mind"
Well of course she didn't mind, she could never be angry at her father. Of course her shopping trip could wait.
"Of course, dad, it's fine, we can do it when you're feeling better" she said in soft tones, wiping away a tear from her eye. The truth is, she couldn't think of not having her father. What if something worse had happened? How would she cope? "I've been told I will be fine tomorrow, so we'll re-arrange the shopping trip then darling" her father explained gently. "Okay daddy" she said just like she used to call him when she was a young child. "Love you" she finished. "Love you too darling, speak soon"
And then he was gone. She was just about to finish up her drink and leave the cafe, when she noticed a female she was certain she knew. She wasn't too close to her, but there was no mistaking who it was once the girl spoke. So instead of leaving, she made her way over to the girl at the table in the middle of the cafe.
"Hi Char, mind if I join you?" Leandra asked in quiet tones, the tears gone, but still feeling sad about having missed out on seeing her father today. She loved him dearly and had been looking forward to their shopping trip so much.

Charlotte looked over as her coffee arrived at the sound of a cell phone. She frowned slightly, as she thought she knew the young blonde seated in the booth on the almost opposite end of cafe. She glanced toward her coffee and took a drink of it as she tuned out the muttered conversation the girl was having on he cell phone.
Pulling a napkin toward her, she absentmindedly began to fold it out of habit. It was something she always did when she was bored at cafes or resteraunt. However, she did look up at the sound of the first syllabal of her name. She knew of hardly anyone that used it. She spotted Leandra and flashed a brief smile.
"Sure." She spoke, taking another drink of coffee before looking back at Leandra. "What brings you to this part of LA?"

Lea was glad to see the smile on Charlotte's face, it meant her intruding on Charlotte wasn't a bad thing. With everybody's mixed feelings just now you could never be sure what mood someone was going to be in, so it was always great when their mood was a happy one, or which seemed a happy one anyway.
Sure....What brings you to this part of LA?...
Lea smiled softly at this, and then fought back the tears which were looming again. It was so silly, to be crying because her father couldn't make their shopping trip today. But she loved him so much and had been really looking forward to seeing him again after all the time they had been apart.
"I was supposed to be meeting my father today, he was going to treat me to a shopping trip, but he just called me, had an accident at work" she explained with a sad smile. Then thought she better explain it wasn't a bad accident, she didn't want Charlotte to worry.
"It was just a sprained ankle, but I had been looking forward to seeing him so much, he was too busy to meet up with me when we got back. I worry about him so much, I could never lose him" she explained in gentle tones. If she could make Charlotte understand how much her father meant to her, then maybe Lea being upset so much wouldn't seem so trivial.

Charlotte listened to her, nursing her coffee as she continued to fiddle with the napkin in front of her. She frowned slightly as Leandra finished speaking.
"Wow, that's pretty bad." She muttered, looking back up at the blonde. "I'd be upset too if my father was like that. Fortunatley for me, he's that kind that wouldn't give a crap even if I died, or was brutally murdered and they never found my body." Charlotte said, resting her chin in her hand.
"But at least it's merely sprained. Not broken. Though sprained does have a tendency to hurt a helluva lot more than broken." She continued. "But I'm sorry you didn't get to see him today."

Lea listened to Charlotte and knew what she was saying made a lot of sense, in the part that it wasn't that serious. Maybe getting so upset was really silly. But she frowned when Charlotte spoke of her own father. It was sad, because one thing she did know for a fact, her father would be devastated if anything happened to her. In fact he was devastated the whole time she was missing, when stranded on the Island.
Fortunately for me, he's that kind that wouldn't give a crap even if I died, or was brutally murdered and they never found my body...
"That's terrible Char" Leandra began. "Wasn't your father worried about you when you got stuck on the Island for so long with us?" Leandra asked in soft tones. "My father thought i had died, he was so pleased when he heard my voice" she continued with a smile.
Suddenly she seemed to feel better about things, maybe talking to Charlotte was a good idea, it stopped her from worrying about her father quite as much.
But at least it's merely sprained. Not broken. Though sprained does have a tendency to hurt a helluva lot more than broken....But I'm sorry you didn't get to see him today....
Leandra smiled some more, sad thoughts almost gone from her mind. Charlotte must think she was mad for worrying so much about a sprained ankle. It was true to say that Leandra was definitely a daddy's girl. "You're right of course, it's only a sprain, I'm sure he'll be just fine" she began still smiling. "And he did say it wasn't that painful, and that he can meet me tomorrow instead. I'm just being silly" she continued with a wave of her hand.
"Anyway, how are you doing these days?" she asked Charlotte, to give the girl a chance to get anything off her shoulders she might feel like sharing.

She smiled briefly. "But at least you get to see him tomorrow." She stated, tracing the rim of her coffee with her finger.
"My father was worried, yes, but he never did try to come and see me when we got back. Then again, he and the rest of my family probably doesn't know I'm alive." She stated. "The ones like Miles, Dan, Frank, and I weren't exactly broadcast that we were back because of our employer."
Widmore hadn't exactly wanted anyone to know about their return, because he knew some people would approach them and ask them about the mysteries of the island. Not that she really cared. She would tell them what they wanted to know just so they'd leave her alone.
"What am I up to? I've been staying at the Roosevelt just like the rest of you. Been looking for a job either for a dig overseas or I'm considering a zoologist or something along those lines." She shrugged. "Nothing big." And been trying to get back to the island... she added to herself mentally. But she had promised not to go back, and she wasn't going to break it. But she still wanted to go.

But at least you get to see him tomorrow....Leandra nodded in agreement at this with a much bigger smile. "Yes, yes I do, and I know it will be special" she replied. Her father meant the world to her. You hear of all these special relations between mothers and sons and fathers and daughters, and think is there any truth in it, but Leandra was living proof there was truth in it, at least truth in it for her it would seem anyway.
My father was worried, yes, but he never did try to come and see me when we got back. Then again, he and the rest of my family probably doesn't know I'm alive....The ones like Miles, Dan, Frank, and I weren't exactly broadcast that we were back because of our employer....
Leandra listened carefully to Charlotte as she spoke of the way her father and her family in general were reacting to her, she couldn't believe it. But then, when she thought about it in reality, she was hardly close to her mother. Not since the police raid on the brothel, when Leandra doing her mother a good turn was in the building doing the accounts for her at the time.
"It's so sad your family don't seem to care for you too much, but I guess I can understand how you are feeling to a degree, I don't get along with my mother" saying the word mother was like venom in her throat and the word was literally spat out. To the rest of Charlotte's words, Lea gave an understanding nod and shook her head at the audacity of their employer to treat them in such a way. "Can't believe they treated you in such a way" was all Leandra could say in reply.
What am I up to? I've been staying at the Roosevelt just like the rest of you. Been looking for a job either for a dig overseas or I'm considering a zoologist or something along those lines....
Lea blushed at the first part of Charlotte's reply, of course she knew she was staying at the Roosevelt like her, she just meant what had she been doing in general since getting off the Island. "Well I knew you were at the Roosevelt" she kind of giggled, "I guess I didn't really mean that, even if it didn't come out right" she continued. Then listened carefully to the rest of her words with interest. "Sounds good to me" she replied with regards to what jobs she had planned.

Charlotte shrugged.
"My younger sisters get most of the attention in my family. One became a doctor, the other a lawyer, and I'm an anthropologist. You could call me the black sheep of my family." She stated. "So I'm used to it."
She leaned back in her chair, taking another drink of coffee. She had always been in the odd one in the family. Not that it bothered her. Not any more at least. Sighing, she glanced back at Leandra as she spoke.
"Yeah, well, I need something to do to make money. Apparently I'm not going back to the island." She muttered, swirling her coffee in her cup.

"It's great you can take it so well, you must have a very tough skin" Leah said in reply to Charlotte saying her sisters were more important. "Not sure I could take it so easily, but then, I'm an only child anyway"
Leandra always used to think she'd like to have had sisters or brothers, but listening to Charlotte, maybe being an only child was better. At least you didn't get singled out or anything like that. There could be no family favourites if there were no other children, and the older Leandra got, the better she liked being the only child. Now she just felt lonely because she was desperate to be loved, to be loved properly, to be able to find someone she could love back. It would seem however, she wasn't going to find that person easy. She snapped back out of her thoughts, when Charlotte spoke again.
"I need to get back into accounting myself" Leandra said and then opened her eyes wide when Charlotte mentioned about not going back to the Island.
"You weren't really considering going back there were you?" Leah said it with horrific tones. Leah was so glad to be back on the world she knew and loved so much.

"I would have loved to have been an only child, but of course, my parents had to go and have Abigail and Megan." She muttered, rolling her eyes at the thought.
She didn't exactly hate her younger siblings, just the fact that they annoyed her to no end, and the fact that her parents played favorites with them. Sighing, she finished off the rest of her coffee and slid the cup away, ordering another one. If she was going to make it through the rest of the day, she was going to need more caffiene.
"Thinking about it and planning on it, yes." She mumbled. "But I'm not going now."

Leah listened again carefully to Charlotte, she seemed upset, actually she wasn't sure that was the correct word, but she definitely seemed down about something. And if she was right in thinking, it wasn't because her sisters were more popular with the family than she was. It was something to do with the Island, she was certain about it.
"Well I can admit that being an only child does have it's advantages, as you can probably imagine" Leandra replied with a small smile.
But she was definitely worried about Charlotte, something was obviously eating her.
Thinking about it and planning on it, yes....But I'm not going now..."Why would you want to go back there?" Leandra asked still in shocked tones. Although she knew some people liked the Island, some were intrigued by it, like Locke, some thought it had healing powers. Maybe it did have healing powers, after all she knew Locke was in a wheelchair when he boarded the plane, yet on the Island he could walk. "So what's made you change your mind if you're so keen on going back?" she continued.

Charlotte didn't reply at first. She stared into her coffee cup, frowning slightly. Three other people besides herself knew why she wanted to go back, and she wasn't sure if she wanted anyone else to know. Besides, Leandra might not even understand, she thought to herself.
"I want to go back because I need to find this... place there." She muttered. "A place I haven't been to for a while." She added. She was probably confusing this young woman. Charlotte shook her head.
"I can't go back because I promised and swore Daniel that I wouldn't go back." She stated. "And I'm not breaking that promise." She let out a sigh and took a drink of coffee, looking back up at Leandra.

It was obviously a touchy subject with Charlotte, Leandra realised, especially when she was taking so long to answer her question. Either that, or Charlotte simply didn't want to speak about her reasons for going back, which was fine. Everybody was entitled to their secrets.
I want to go back because I need to find this... place there.... She listened to Charlotte stumble over what she was telling her. It was obviously something she didn't want to talk about properly. But intrigued, Leah couldn't help but ask the next question. "What place?" Not that Charlotte had to tell her, and by the way she was being guarded already, she probably wouldn't reply. "Or tell me to mind me own business" Leah added so Charlotte wouldn't feel pressured to telling more than she wanted to. People needed their secrets.
I can't go back because I promised and swore Daniel that I wouldn't go back....And I'm not breaking that promise..."But you're obviously unhappy about making that promise and decision" Leandra stated, "Why would he not want you to go back? It's not dangerous is it? Wouldn't he go back with you?" she continued, although why anybody would want to go back there escaped her.
