"You wouldn't have to go if you didn't want to anyway. I wouldn't want to force you to do anything you wouldn't want to do." She said, leaning back on the bench. She glanced at the paper bits still floating in the fountain. She leaned over and grabbed them, trying to piece them back together. Of course, Charlotte knew it was no use. They were too wet to even recognize what the photo had been.
"Well, you aren't lost anymore, so don't worry. I'm right here, and I just promised you I wasn't going to leave."

Of course he didn't want to go. The Island gave him feelings that he didn't want to feel ever again, but if Charlotte was going, he had to go. He cared for her more than probably even he realised. He watched as she leaned to the fountain, and he tilted his head slightly as he tried to peice together in his brain what the picture could have been. The wrinkled and smeared spots looked vaguely like the picture of Ben.
Charlotte spoke again, and Daniel looked from the wet and wrinkled picture to Charlotte's face. He wanted to believe that it was true, that she wouldn't leave, however, the way she looked at the photo, he wasn't sure if she was being entirely truthful. He found his hand moving to lay over hers before he looked at the photo once more. "Why do you want to go back to the Island, Charlotte? That place is...it's beyond bad."

Charlotte looked up from the bits of pictures that she had been trying to put back together. She didn't know why. She knew it was the picture of Ben Miles always kept with him. Why do I want to go back? She repeated to herself mentally. There were several reasons.
"That island cured cancer and moves different in time. I want to find out why. I want to find out how and why there are polar bears on that island, how they got there, and how one got into a desert in Tunisia." She explained, looking at Dan, then shook her head. "But it's fine. I promised I wouldn't go, and I'm not going to break that promise. I was thinking of getting a job here in Los Angeles anyway." She shrugged, curling her fingers around his.

Daniel had to agree that all of what she said sounded tempting. Facinating. Interesting to the point of almost mind-boggling, but deep down too, Daniel was completely and utterly afraid of what the Island held. Sure, he could do research for the rest of his life on the Island and be content, but...but the moment he had landed, he had felt strange. Not to mention his memory had gotten worse, along with the headaches. But then again, back here in the so-called 'real world', they hadn't really gotten any better.
He felt her fingers curl around his, and he looked down at them, his thumb running across one of her fingers. He looked up at her face as she spoke of getting a job in Los Angeles, and his face broke into a slight smile. "That's...that's good." he told her, but deep down, Daniel wondered if she'd keep true to her promise. She seemed more passionate about going back than he did. He narrowed his eyes slightly in confusion, going back to a statement she had previously made. "What do you mean 'where you were born'?" Daniel asked suddenlly. "Aren't you from England?"

Charlotte frowned slightly.
"I lived in England since I was about six. Up until then, that island was my home." She stated. "My parents were part of that DHARMA program and when they finished their work, we moved to England." She explained.
Charlotte could barely remember the first few years of her life, but what she could remember was of the strange experiments her father used to tell her about that he did for Dharma. It made her curious about what other things they had done on the island. "But yeah, I'm more from the Island than from England."

Daniel's brows narrowed deeply as she spoke. On the Island...but...
It was confusing what she was saying. And worrying. Very, very worrying because if she was from the Island, Widmore would have possibly known. No, scratch that, Daniel thought silently. Widmore knew. And if Widmore knew...
"Charlotte, t-that--" he started, his brows narrowed, until he shook his head, slowly at first before grabbing her hand in both of his. "No. No, because, see if--if Widmore knew you were born on the island then--then something really bad would happen." Daniel told her surely. "So--so you've got to be...wrong. Or something because...because he can't know. And--" Thinking, why had thinking suddenlly became a problem? Maybe it was because he hadn't eaten. Maybe he shouldn't have kicked the room service out.
He brought a hand up, pressing the palm against his forehead for a brief moment. "Please...tell me that's a very unfunny joke."

Charlotte leaned her head to one side, listening to him as he spoke, stumbling slightly. Her lips twitched.
"I was born on the island Dan." She said slowly, looking at him. "Widmore probably doesn't even know. At least, I'm pretty sure he doesn't. He probably would have come to kill me or something by now wouldn't he?" Charlotte continued. He was beginning to worry her about what he was saying. "But what - what bad things could happen?" She questioned, biting her lower lip.
"I'm not joking. I wouldn't joke about something as serious as that."

"But if he does know, that's even more of a reason to--" Daniel put two fingers up against his head for the international sign of a gun. "A-And if you were born on the Island, in--in his very twisted very--very small brain he'd think you'd know where the Island was, how we got there and then..." Daniel felt himself trail off. The memory of the blood splatters on the walls of the Freighter made Daniel frown.
"Charlotte, that's crazy." he whispered, almost worried because if she was born on the Island, she would want to go back...and that would mean that the flashes he was having were true. Maybe he felt more safe with just being crazy himself because he couldn't shake the feeling of lonelyness that he had felt in the middle of the ocean.

"No, Widmore's crazy if he thinks I know where that island is." She stated, shaking her head. "And besides, you're the only one who knows that bearing to get in safely. Even if I knew where it was and I led him to the thing, we wouldn't be able to actually get to it without our brains being completely messed up by the eletromagnetic fields or whatever the bloody hell they are." Charlotte said.
"And maybe - don't you think that Widmore would have tried to kill me by now? I mean, he wouldn't want to wait this long....." Her voice trailed off and she could help but glance sideways.

"Because..."
Well, admittedly, Daniel was at a loss as to why Widmore was waiting as long as he was. However, he wasn't an evil megalomaniac, so he raelly couldn't get into the mindframe. He was just a scientist. He would have smiled slightly at her mention that he was the only one that knew the way to the Island if the topic at hand hadn't been so grim. "Because--because maybe he knows more than we think he knows. Maybe he--he knows." And if he knew, Daniel knew that it would end badly. "Y-You havn't told anyone? You didn't tell Naomi or-or anyone, did you? Because...because that would be bad because Naomi would have told Widmore and I just don't want to see you hurt."

Charlotte shook her head.
"No, I never told Naomi. She didn't like me that well anyway, so her and I never really talked to begin with." She replied quietly, letting out a sigh. She didn't know how Widmore would know about her. Afterall, he hired her, so he had to know somehow, right? She was slightly confused as to why he would hire her if he knew, but she put that in the back of her mind. "So Naomi couldn't have told him." She continued after a moment. "And I know you don't want me hurt, but I'm kinda worried about you. Widmore has this thing about going after other people close to the person he wants to get to. Like how he had Linus's daughter murdered." She said quietly, her lips twitching slightly before curving into a frown.

A hand came up, fingers pressing at the spot between his eyes as he listened to her, his head shaking slightly as she spoke of Widmore. "He doesn't care. He doesn't care, he just wants the Island." Daniel told her surely, fingers curling slightly as his hand slid to press the side of his hand against his forehead. Daniel knew that the Island in Widmore's hands would be bad. Very very bad.
As she spoke about his safety, Daniel felt a slight smile cross his face, though nothing was amusing about what she was saying. "See," he drew the word out, turning to face her. "I can't find it in me to...care." He did care, he knew he cared, and yet, Charlotte was here. She was safe. And Daniel knew that if Charlotte was safe, everything would be alright. "You don't have to worry about me." However, he worried about her more than she knew. "Like you said, I'm the only know that knows where the Island is."

"Well, he can't have the island." She said flatly, brushing hair from her face as her gaze strayed to stare at the sidewalk like she had done earlier. "I hope he never get's his hands on that place."
She looked at him suddenlt, an eyebrow raised as he spoke. "Dan, you should care. Widmore - he could come after you just as much as he could come after me." She said, looking at him worriedly. "Does anyone know that you know the bearing beside Frank and I?" She asked after a moment. If Widmore knew about Dan too, then they were both in trouble.

Daniel's brows narrowed slightly saw he saw Charlotte's own match his. He knew he wasn't a match for Widmore. He knew he'd be able to do next to nothing if faced with the fact of keeping Charlotte safe, but Daniel knew that he'd try to the death. As her eyebrows rose, he matched her look. "No. Um, w-well, Jack because, um...he asked. He's--he's the only one of them that...knows. Unless he told the others. But--but they don't know what they're looking at."
"We'll be alright. We'll be fine because we're here together."
He wanted to believe that, he wanted to believe it so much that they'd be fine because they were together, not on the Island. He didn't want to believe that his flashes were true. He brought a hand up, pressing it against his forehead once more to stem the pain that was starting to grow. "We'll be fine."

She nodded simply. "Jack wouldn't have told the others. He probably forgot by now anyway." She mumbled, running a hand through her hair as she looked back to Daniel. She smiled when he spoke again.
"You're right." She said with a smile. "If we stay together, we'll be fine." She said and wrapped her arms around his neck in a hug.
She knew they were trying to convince themselves that they would be fine, but neither could possibly be sure, could they? Charlotte wouldn't be able to handle it if anything happened to Daniel, especially if it was because of her. But maybe if they could evade whatever came their way, they would be fine. Though the way Dan kept looking as if he was in pain made Charlotte worry slightly - what could they do about his flashes?
